it's been around for a while. I don't really understand the point of taking a motor that was designed with no throttle, and putting throttles on it, but yeah it's cool how much power he made.

you could do basically the same thing with the stock DME, set all the lift tables to max and you can also lock VANOS, then just add a set of throttles. Or you could leave it alone and just build a different airbox with shorter runners which is likely the main reason he's making so much more power over stock.

Been through this with the shop and it has to do with the MoTeC ECU not being programmed for Valvetronic, it's easier to lock it open and modify the throttle body to work with cables. MoTeC will program for Valvetronic but it'll cost a small fortune.

I was told the point was adding lightness by being able to gut the unwanted systems in the car and not have the DME lose its mind. That and it seems to be a universal opinion that cable operated throttle bodies provide faster response. Losing the Valvetronic motor also offloads the electrical system of one more otherwise unnecessary load.

One other thing is logging and a dash come with the addition of a MoTeC panel for the driver which is needed since the original dash no longer functions. A MoTeC ECU, display, and custom made wiring harness is close to fifteen grand for a small display and minimal harness if you have it made by the MoTeC guys in town but at this price they usually provide full support. Ain't cheap but it's easy to tune, relatively speaking, and you end up with exactly what you want. It's expandable as well since it's all on its own CAN bus.

Looked closely at doing this with my car but it would require doing what the op's linked guy did, lose the Valvetronic and start from scratch. And it was unlikely we'd be able to jack into enough of the car's existing systems to make is reasonably streetable.

The shop is confident we can get to 330hp, net crank, with a flowed head, blueprinted and balanced bottom end, regrind cams, race tune and exhaust, and maybe without resorting to the higher compression and 100 octane race fuel. Will be interesting to see if it's at all possible with Valvetronic functioning.

It looks like the throttle bodies would restrict his hood from closing??
