Remove and Replace Model Number Emblem
I recall reading somewhere that the model number emblem affixed on the right rear of the trunk lid is installed with a special BMW alignment tool since these are simply adhesive-backed with no alignment pins and bushings.
Can it be removed and replaced as DIY, and if so, does anyone have any tips on removal and alignment guides/measurements for installing a new emblem? I'm swapping an LCI trunk lid from a different model and want to install an aftermarket black emblem.

Idk about the alignment tool and all that. To remove I just used string/dental floss and heat to remove it. Then used Goo gone to remove any left over adhesive. Anything I couldn't remove I just wet sanded and buffed out.

I replaced mine with gloss black lettering and just did it free hand, you could also cut a stencil around the letters before removing them and then just slip the new lettering through your ghetto stencil lol. Another way is to tape an index card below and draw lines to where the bottom of the letters line up.
Best of luck |

^ +1 to that. There are measurements that are part of the BMW TIS program to make it like up properly.
