Indy shop thinks my engine has blown up. PLEASE HELP!

I have a 2006 330i with k&n drop in/charcoal delete and muffler delete. Thats it.

Yesterday driving casually my car stalled out and I pulled over. I started it back up and it rode very rough and the whole car shook.

Got it toed and my indy shop thinks I need a new motor. He said the vanos could need replacing and the rough idle could have caused engine damage inside. He didnt even know if my cpu was stock or tuned(its stock) and he said it could have been because my muffler delete caused bad back pressure.

Is this possible??
Thanks

Find a new shop; this one shouldn't be working on cars period with that level of ignorance.

Back pressure isn't even a real thing...and a muffler delete wouldn't impact it even if it was.

A rough idle can't damage an engine, a rough idle is only a symptom of what is wrong such as bad injector or failed ignition coil.

Needs a new motor? Nice way of him saying, "hey i think we got a real sucker here that we can take for a few grand". Start with the simplest fix, replace spark plugs and coils.

Don't know where to start there, but big lol on the shop haha, either go to another garage as suggested, or try to investigate by yourself, a good start is to look if this is related to sparks/ignition as it's usually the case (there are lots of threads about it). Good luck

Ok thanks! I got scared there for a minute. Since this is my daily driver I'll have to take it to a shop. I'll keep looking around.

Back pressure is a thing, but it's just going to reduce power output, not destroy an engine.

OP, run the hell away from this "shop".

When people talk about back pressure, they're usually referring to exhaust scavenging which isn't causing pressure.

The only way to have actual back pressure would be to clog a cat or block the exhaust in some other way.

So I guess it's a real thing, but it's not what people think it is.

Definitely take the car to a different place and get a second opinion. Does not sound right at all.

What's the name of the shop? So we can warn others away from it LOL.

Probably plugs/coilpack/injectors.

Back pressure and scavenging are two different things, and there are plenty more ways to generate it beyond a blockage.
