One Frustrated V2er

So this evening on my usual run to the canyons, of course I ended up behind someone driving like molasses in winter. There is only one point on this canyon road where you are able to pass, so at that point I shoot over and give her the gas... the power of V2 kicks in and bam... starting to accelerate and get beside him and then.... Limp. I couldn't even complete the pass. This was only 2nd gear.

Then on the freeway making my way home I get a newer mustang with exhaust and who knows what kind of mods next to me. Car sounds good and he want's to play. My girl’s next to me who I thought would have never said "Take em". Sorry baby, I can't. I'll get the limp...

Never thought I would have to say that to my girl... (lol)

I am one of the rare individuals who gets the limp mode induced at redline. I thought it was only in 3rd gear but this evening in the canyon, I hit redline in 2nd and limp mode was induced.

Just to let everyone know, I have had this problem since install back on Jan 10th and have sent data logs to Shiv and the guys at Vishnu. I was finally able to speak with Ali on Friday and he is going to follow up with Shiv and hopefully get me a solution. I have tried various forms of alteration of Torque Values and reinstallation. The car is very strong and the only problem exists at redline.

This thread is not meant to bash on the boys at Vishnu as I was an early adopter of the ProCede and actually ordered it when they were using the Xede.

Just venting. When you have the power but just can't use it.

End rant....

Great! could you email me as well (check your email inbox) as I have the exact same problem. Did not experience limp mode prior to this but once it started, I could replicate it with ease and only occurs when I hit the rev limiter and the slush box changes. Changing it at 6500 rpm is not an issue but 7000 is

I have the same issue as you. Shiv has been working with me to try to fix the issue. There is a few things you can try.

1) try the 1/10/08 map make sure you update your firmware.
2) try to reinstall the PROcede. I dont know if this will be effective, but I am going to give that a try today. I think there maybe a connection loose someware because I do notice that from time to time I get a SES light with no limp mode then it just goes away after about 5 seconds. OR I get Limp mode and SES then the ses goes away the limp stays and then the SES light magically comes back.
3)Shift manually at 6500 rpms when you racing or passing, this meathod is a pain in the ass to do everytime since your probably use to an auto. but it works for me.
4) Shiv is probably going to send you a custom map. It did work for me for a while but then stopped.

Also I have some question for you.
1) what month/year build is your car?
2) what is your oil temps when your getting limp modes
3) do you do back to back pulls and then get limp modes
4) do you keep in in the lowest gear for a long period of time and then just slam the gas?
5) have you ever used octane booster?

I would like to know if you find a solution. If I am able to find one I will share it with you.

The PROcede is a awesome product and makes you feel like you have the biggest cock on the block but sometimes when its show time and your car goes limp, it really sucks. So I feel your pain

The reason Im asking is because I was asked this question by Shiv, and He even stated that Octane boosters are not good. Im glad that you used your NOS 104 octane booster with no ill results but Im trying to find what are the simularities between my car and his since we both seem to be having the same issue. There are a bunch of people out there that have had no issues with V2 im one of the few unfortunate ones that does have an issue. If we can find the weak link we can fix the issue. I have spent tons of time and about $600 on this issue. So please understand my logic.

A guy at the LA install had the same problem as your discribing. At shift. Shiv made a quick adjust and it was gone. Even after an hour of hard driving all was golden........

I would not be suprised if an updated map becomes available:.

Hey Chitown,

-Yep, I have the most current map (v2.0.2 1-10 Speed Limit) and the most current Firmware. It was the same with the prior map I used (v2.0.2 12-29 Speed Limit)
-I have reinstalled the ProCede and double checked everything. I am fairly tech savvy and have uninstalled and reinstalled the ProCede many times with both 1.47 and V2. I know it's installed correctly. The car is strong through most of the rpm range and limp mode is only induced at redline.
-Shifting manually is an option, however, if you are driving at a certain speed in the auto's and you nail it, the downshift will take you immediately to redline and then limp mode is induced.
-I would love to try another map from Shiv. Haven't received it yet.

As for your questions:
1.) My car is an October 2006 build.
2.) I had the factory oil cooler retrofit installed and my temps have not gone above 230-240 during winter, cooler times. When pushed hard with 1.47 I believe I saw 250 one time.
3.) It doesn't matter when I do a pull. I could take the car out and the engine can still be fairly cool or I could have driven for 30+ minutes on a compute to the canyons. I floor it, I hit redline and limp. Now I thought the limp mode was only induced during a pull in 3rd gear but last night was not the case as I was in 2nd. During the data logs I recorded for Shiv I was able to redline in 2nd, but the car felt awful at the top of the rpm band. Almost shaky as if it were bordering on limp mode.
4.) I have tried pulling in "drive". I have tried keeping it in "DS" mode and flooring it. I have also (last night) kept the car in 2nd gear, keeping the rpm’s around 3,500 - 4,000 range and then flooring it to make a pass. The culprit, I believe, has to do with boost at redline/near redline.
5.) I never use octane booster. I have used a mix of 100 race gas before but that has only been with 1.47 and NOT V2. I strictly use Union 71 - 91 octane as this has been discussed before. I also have had the fuel pump replaced.

Hopefully whatever Shiv sends me will take care of the problem. It is just more frustrating then anything not being able to drive the car to its potential, which is what the ProCede and Shiv's tune does for it. I still believe that the ProCede is the most advanced and strongest option for the 335 currently. Of course there are bumps in the road but the beauty of these forms is we can get the information out there and hopefully solve any issues, especially the finicky cars such as mine.

Interesting, My car is a september 06 build, I wonder if something has to do with the first production cars. The weird thing that is going on with mine is that when my car is cool, I dont get limp mode at 3rd and 4th. however, when my temps hit 250F thats when my car goes into limp, I just tired to change out procedes and the wire harness with someone else and Im having the same issue.

Mine acts the same way...once the oil temp gets up there, i can replicate the limp mode with ease ....in 2nd or 3rd gear

Shift earlier say at around 6500rpm and i have no problems whatsoever

Maybe the temp has something to do with the sensitivity of when limp mode is induced. When I recorded the datalogs I believe my engine was relatively cool and hence maybe why I was only getting the limp mode in 3rd gear. But the commute to the canyon and a warm engine, the limp mode came in 2nd.

Do you guys have the factory oil cooler?
I think Dinan was the 1st to point out overheating issues around cylinders 5 & 6... I wonder if a bigger oil cooler or Redline WaterWetter might help...

my car is an Aug. '06 build and I haven't had a limp mode since v1.40

I confess to falling behind on the latest info -- has Shiv said whether he can modify the water pump (like the Dinan flash)? This might help if the limp is temp related.
