Dinan question
Hello all. I visited the Dinan website yesterday and noticed that the software upgrade is available for the 335i, for $2k. The reflash increases HP/Torque to 384/421, and the factory warranty is maintained. After searching this forum, it appears that there wasn't much fanfare about Dinan unveiling this product, with e90post members still talking more about Procede, XEDE, and other programs that - as far as I know - would void the warranty, right?
I've owned many cars, including multiple BMW's, and I'm wondering what the thinking is... as far as I'm concerned, a few hundred $'s are very much worth paying, to keep the warranty intact. Is the Dinan thought of as too expensive? Do the other products not void the warranty or do people not care about this? Or maybe the people are looking for the product with the most boost, no matter what. Here's a thought - this is addressed to the individual who maintains the "Official Performance Mod List for the 335i" - could you add an asterisk to the products that are authorized by BMW to keep the warranty whole? Thanks in advance for your responses. |

Apparently in spite of the extra $800 or more compared with another tuner product you will still be left with uncertainty whether your factory warranty is maintained.
From Dinan's website: The installation of Dinan Performance Products and systems may affect the vehicle manufacturer’s new car limited warranty. The vehicle manufacturer’s new car limited warranty may not apply to modifications to a vehicle or the installation of any performance accessories or components attached to the vehicle which substantially alter the original engineering and/or operating specifications or which result in damage to other original vehicle manufacturer’s components. From other's posts on the subject it really depends on what your particular BMW service dept. tells you. |

Seeing as this is a forum full of people who sit online and talk about nothing but their car all day, yes... the dinan chip is too underpowered for what you're paying. Very, very, very few people have had their warranties voided over a piggyback.. not to mention that you can take them out and most of the time you won't get caught.

Please visit the "General Forced Induction" forum, there is PLENTY of posts about the new Dinan flash, oil cooler and the up and comming CARB certified exhaust...! Secondly, your warranty is intact and don't let fear mongers steer you away. DINANs been doing this with BMW for nearly 25 years. There have been only a handfull of cases where BMW and DINAN had to decide who was paying. Whats the alternative..? A box with a bunch of wires hanging off it... that you have to hide from the dealer. Go legit and go DINAN or Conforti... FI forums! |
