E90 Stock Style 159 Wheels with 20mm Spacers and 255/40/17's
One thing became very clear when I was searching for pics of stock wheels and spacers, very few people ever took the time to do this combo so there aren't very many pictures. So this is for all of you future searchers.
I really like the Style 159's. They have an elegant look and nice sheen to them. I'm a middle-aged accountant so the last thing I want is the dropped boy-racer look. I do, however, appreciate an aggressive stance. I think a lot of the reason people don't like them is because they always see them sunken in and with skinny all-season tires. I replaced the 225 all-seasons with BG Goodrich G-Sport Comp 2's. 255's in the rear and 225's in the front. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I've actually been debating spacers for the front. You can't tell from the pictures but the wheels are exactly equal right now. Before I had the 255's on the rear they looked perfect. But the 255's on the rear caused a lot more bulge over the side which is now protruding much more from the wheel well than they did with the 225's.

Yeah, I have those wheels as my winter set. The fronts definitely end up looking sunken in when you do spacers and wider tires in the rear. Have you tried installing the 255s up front yet? That would look killer if you could run that setup square!

No, I haven't tried 255's in the front. The 255's are so much wider than the 225's I just assumed there was no way it would work out. And these BFG's seem to run wider than other tires of the same size. Although, I may try it just to find out.
The 255's look so much nicer on the rims and it would be nice to be able to rotate the tires. The 255's are also the perfect height. I thought about putting 245's on the front but they are not 25" tall and I was afraid it might screw up the computer to have different height tires. |

Update
I think the 20mm spacers are too big with the 255's. I'm getting some rubbing when I hit dips on the highway at speed. Such a shame because they look great. I'm going to have to remove the spacers and go down in size. I thin the 20mm are perfect if you're going to use 225's |

Where are they rubbing? I used to rub with 245/40/18 8.5 ET20 on stock non-sport suspension, but after upgrading to Bilsteins I have absolutely no issues with rubbing now. The stock dampers SUCK!! They allow way too much compression...swap them out before going down in spacer size. It's literally the best money you'll spend on the car; especially on non-sport suspension.
Either that, or a slight roll might help. Again, depends on where you're rubbing. |

Thanks for the tip on the Bilsteins. I now have hope that I could make them work. I'm also on the stock non-sport suspension.
I only get rubbing when I am loaded or hit a dip in the road at high speed causing the suspension to bottom out. It is rubbing on the outside edge I assume because I can see some damage to the tire. In the picture below you can see the tire gouges below the line. These tires are only a couple months old. I removed the spacers this morning so I'm back to stock offset. |

I ended up just replacing the 20mm with 18mm spacers in the rear. You can't really even tell the difference and it solved my rubbing issue. While I was at it I also put some 10mm spacers up front. I'm real happy with that move.

This is a great thread and exactly what I was looking for. So with the stock tire sizes 20mm in the rear and there will be no issues ? Also what do you recommend for the front ? Again using stock tires.

Hey Guys sorry to raise this again. Will 245/40/17 fit in the front on this exact rim with no spacers ? Fit as in no rubbing / no issues. I am currently staggered with a 245/40 at the back but would prefer a square setup.

Rotate your wheels and you'll find out for certain.
