Question 2008 i-Drive NAV DVD?

I see the 2008-1 European NAV DVD is already out. Does anyone know when the North American version will be available? More importantly is anyone going to post a torrent for it?

TIA

It is supposed to be out in Feb this year. My CA said that BMW doesn't usually get the discs for 6 months. I am not sure I believe him though.

On the Navteq website the latest is still BMW Professional DVD Map Update - Version 2007.2

A poster in another thread said a 2008.1 should be released this month (February), but there is no sign of that yet on their website.

In Europe they have cameras on the freeways that take your picture when you're speeding, and conveniently send you a ticket home. No more getting pulled over for speeding!
I've heard that in the UK they even have cameras that keep track of your car at different points and then calculate your average speed... scary

unfortunately, i get the feeling it's the new trend.

MD and especially DC have alot of them on usually slow roads (25-30mph).

great revenue source for cities.

Yeah all over UK we have speed cameras and laser trackers ...basically it sets up 2 points of reading say in your USA freeway case 2 points at a toll gate...they know if say u drove at 55mph it would take u 2 mins to the next toll ..if u do it in 1 min then it knows u have been speeding...it reads ur number plate and sends u a ticket ..$120 and gives u 3 penalty points...after 12 penalty points u r banned for 6/12 months.

Also they have guys with laser reading handheld guns/guys sitting in backs of vans on roadsides and then u have the cars with VScar a calibrated camera in car. There are also fixed roadside cameras.

Its the way forward cos of the revenues it makes in the uk and they say its to reduce speed and save lives. So far this has proved not to be the case, only making the local authorities and governments loads of money.

Later today ill post u a pic of the new euro version of 2008-1 showing the cameras.

Arizona has speed cameras everywhere. Saw it first hand during the Super Bowl. There is a sensor in the freeway pavement and cameras on the side of the road. If you are going more than 11mph over the limit you get a front (for face) and back (license plate) shot and a couple hundred dollar ticket in the mail. The same system is set up in the middle of long stretches of road to catch speeders. The natives are used to the cameras and brake when they are near a permanent camera location.

They also have speed & red light cameras on most intersections. You cant run a red light or go too fast through a green/yellow light otherwise you will get a ticket. Plus they have vans which get parked on the side of roads with mounted cameras & radar that automatically take photos of speeders. They dont do any of it by hand like one member from Europe mentioned. I saw the guy manning the van taking a nap while the system mounted on the side was working away. He's probably in the van to set up/tear down the mounted camera & protect it from vandals.

Other places in the US have cameras too, like Beverly Hills. But no place more than Phoenix & the surrounding area.
I hope they included these camera locations on the US Nav disc.

I wonder if the maps will be better and released more often when BMW switches to TeleAtlas instead of Navteq...
The article says the the TeleAtlas should start appearing in 2008 but doesn't say for what vehicles...
If that's the case then is there going to be a 2008.1 from Navteq for BMW?

FYI, the speedcameras are not on the original version of the European Nav DVD, someone modified the DVD and added them as POI to it.

I have done this myself a couple of times with 2006-2, 2007-1 and 2007-2 versions.

If you have POI files for US camera locations, you can do the same thing by following these instructions:

I was hoping Navteq added the info. Anyone create a US Navteq disc with speed camera POI added? I've yet to see anyone share a US Nav disc with them added. If I had the time, resources or knowledge I'd build a disc. I know we can gather some US speed camera info from http://www.photoenforced.com/

I wonder if we can get a progman update that will allow our cars to read the new maps from TeleAtlas. Otherwise we'll be stuck with the Navteq maps from 2007 while new car buyers move forward with TeleAtlas updates.

Just to finish off the off-topic,

The 2008-1 Euro torrent covers all of the following countries & includes the European Speedcam database (Dec 07):

AT,CH,LI,IT,BE,LU,NL,CZ,FR,AD,ES,MC,DE,GR,SM,VA,SE ,DK,NO,FI,SK,GI,PT,GB,IE

A problem was found for some non-UK users of the download, where the language is defaulting to Spanish. However, a fix is available here.
