No Jack! What's that all about.

I decided to do a pit stop and change my G-Powers for the 19" 225's.
One of my G-Powers has kerb rash () and they could do with a good clean.

So I went to the boot to look for the jack and wheelbrace (you can tell I've read the manual ) and after looking, the light suddenly went on,sh*t I've got run flats!

So I rung BMW parts:

"Hello BMW parts,How can we help"

"Hi I've got an E92 Coupe and want to buy a jack"

"You don't need a jack Sir,you have runflats"

"Yes I know that, but I still want a jack and a wheel brace" (I omitted to mention that I had actually looked for it in the boot )

"Can I ask why you need a jack and brace Sir"

"I want to take the wheels off to clean them"

(stifled laughs from Mr BMW, meaning I have a right numpty on the phone) "Sorry Sir we don't sell a jack or a brace, I suggest you visit Halfords"

Fortunately a neighbour had a trolley jack and a good socket set.

First problem (the jack won't go under the car as it's on H+R springs), so a handy scaffold board from the garden came in handy. (amazing how everyone has a scaffold board in their garden)
Second problem, the nuts are a right pig to get off, followed by the third problem, getting the **ckers off the hubs.

First one:

Good look?

Changing the front wheels proved more of a challenge,as the car sits lower then the rear, so a couple of screws and a hammer (screwdrivers are for wimps) + yet another handy scaffold board from the garden, and:

Job done, apart from having a filthy car!

Snow foam fun tomorrow, the dog really can't wait!

Even if there was a jack in the boot. There are no jacking points.

Trolley jack is the only way (plus optional scaffold boards)

there are jacking points! they are the same as on the e46. if you buy one of those jacks its the same.

I found out there was no jack other day i wanted to check brakes ended up having to take it to makes garage.

Correct, the jacking points are the square blocks on the cills.

H/C personally i think the car looks better on 225's, but i know a genuine buyer for a set if they do go up for sale

If you have a trolley jack with detachable saddle, the foot will fit in the block.

I stand corrected

So you CAN use a slot in handle type jack then ?

Try machine mart - low entry 'racing' jack

Meant for lowered cars

http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/pr...m-trolley-jack

Probably cheaper than a genuine BMW jack anyway :-0

I bought a scissor jack, which I carry around in case I have to change a wheel. I admit I haven't actually tried it yet, though I've used plenty of similar jacks on older cars in the past. One day I really must try out the space-saver spare and fitting kit (hub spacer and bolts). I've been carrying them around since I dumped the runflats, just in case the tyre-weld doesn't get me home...

Looks good Ian, I really like the wheels , I drive my car up on a paving slab and had my tool shop guy at work make my some steel inserts that fit into the jacking point so i can use a standard jack, as for the wheels stuck on the hub I used to drive around the block with the nuts slightly loose !

Good to see you use macho tools !

Common problem dxb, alloy corrodes and sticks to the steel spigot, a little smear of copper grease helps.

I bought the BMW jack kit at a small cost of £80 so I could take the wheels off to clean them properly now and again.

The kit comes with a scissor jack, torque wrench set for the wheel nuts, a wheel chock, a nice pair of black cotton gloves to stop the executive hands getting dirty, and a stick of chalk for marking tyre puncture holes to help your friendly neighbourhood tyre fitter.

Worth every penny lol

I hear that the guy who bought my old car had problems when they came to change teh brake pads and couldn't get the wheels off. Apparently they had to hire in some sort of kit to pull them off!

A rubber mallet should be all you need.
