cobb n55 stage 1+ FMIC question

hey guys, when I run the cobb stage 1+ FMIC map I feel so much more power than on stage 1.

I know that cobb recommends the FMIC to run the stage 1+ FMIC map, but is this really necessary? I'd appreciate some input.

Currently, I have an Injen Intake, ER charge pipe, some scoops.

Thanks!

Is it really necessary? Think about it. An aftermarket FMIC provides more cooling than stock. As we move into the summer months, you run the risk of your engine overheating because the map is counting on the FMIC to provide sufficient cooling.

My suggestion is to get a custom map from PTF or Wedge. Not very expensive and the map is tuned specifically for your engine and mods.

Lol his engine wont overheat. If the IAT is too high timing will be pulled. If you want to run that map, log it and make sure your temps aren't getting too high and timing isn't getting pulled.

thanks! appreciate the advice. noob question - which temp should I be looking at on my tuner, or will looking at the oil temp gauge provide enough directional guidance?

No oil temp is not good enough. You need to log your IAT.

Bro u need to datalog if ur gonna run any Cobb maps in order to make sure ur car is running good. As far as I know 91 octane can't even run the sports map at least in CA.

From the Cobb Website:
Sport maps are designated for use with 91 and 92 octane fuel or better.
Aggressive maps are designated for use with 93 and 94 octane fuel or better.

https://static.cobbtuning.com/cobbtu...AccessPORT.pdf

Honestly I'm not tracking this or anything. I'm just sprinting around in a lowered car going diagonal over speed bumps in LA. Just trying to get that power but make sure I don't mess up my car as it's my daily driver.

Assuming this is in response to the request for datalogs; the datalogs are necessary for daily driving just as much. 99% of people who use Cobb and drive these cars are daily drivers. Consider running at least 1 datalog, you'd be surprised on the results and sometimes those results may tell you that you are leaving some power on the table or too aggressive.

based on Cobb stage1+ without an FMIC will get your IAT really high that you will end up losing power.
If you want to give it a try, go ahead but make sure to do a datalog with at least 3 pulls to see how your car is dealing with the extra boost.

IAT barely moved, should be good. Thanks for the input. Will eventually get an FMIC.

"Barely moved" - what is your definition of that? Even with a FMIC my IATs rise with back to back pulls.

started the car at 109, started driving dropped to 90s, drove for 30 min, maxed it at 111. I guess I didn't floor it though as I was just sprinting around local streets.

No not yet. I've thought about doing stage 1 aggressive FMIC on stock Intercooler. But, my oil temps are already high and I try to keep any temps as low as I can.
My intake temps vary from 80's to 130's. The higher when I am sitting in traffic.
Usually seems in 90's when I am cruising.

I'm already pretty pleased with stage 1 aggressive. How much better is the FMIC map?

Without the upgraded FMIC, more than likely it's falling on its face at higher RPMs.. Can't breath.
I have the Cobb FMIC and world of difference

with cobb 1+FMIC i can feel the power gain immediately, right when i start the car. with the cobb stage 1 sport, not too much power change until you hit ~25mph.

I agree with all that FMIC is recommended/required for this map. Just telling you what I am observing from my firsthand experience.

I'm not disagreeing with you here but there are tons of dyno maps, and tons of claims saying the stock intercooler is more than adequate for any tune with stock n55 turbo. I believe there was a before and after fmic install dyno chart on here I saw a while back (on jb4 I think).

I would also like to keep my CPO status so fmic is no dice for me,
