Replaced CD73 screen, now radio and Climate Controls wont turn on
Hi All,
I pulled the CD73 stereo on my 2006 E90 to replace the screen last night. Got the screen replaced. I am confident that the ribbon cables are correct and seated well. When I put the radio back in, it doesnt light up or turn on. The climate controls also dont light up or turn on. Fuses look good, but the symbols on the diagram arent exactly intuitive. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Travis |

A little more info. I swapped the screens back to see if the new one might have been the issue. The same issue exists with the old screen now. When I first get into the car, the button lights are lit and such, but nothing ever turns on.

And a little more.....CCD came back today, that works fine. The backlights on the CCD and radio work fine but the radio and the info parts that go with it, don't work.

What kind of condition is your battery in ?
What kind of condition is your battery in ?
As you can drain the battery while working on the car because it will stay awake. Also if you have an 06 with an original battery you are due for a new one. Read about IBS in the first pdf. electical e90 pdf http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...,d.cGU&cad=rja http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...85464276,d.cGU http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...85464276,d.cGU Last edited by ctuna; 06-15-2015 at 02:11 PM.. |

Battery was replaced last year. Car was driven multiple hours the day before, and I drove it 30 minutes to work this AM.
Thanks for the links. I will look them over. Travis |

If you disconnect the battery.
If you disconnect the battery.
The heater controls turn off and the display is dead on power up. I didn't know it did that or that you could turn off the display by turning the fan all the way down to zero . It kind of threw me for a loop when I installed my stereo. Hitting plus on the fan button powers it back up. |

I didn't disconnect the battery for this, there really wasn't any need to. The Climate controls work fine now, the radio still doesn't work though.

No solution yet, but I get power and ground at the plug. The MOST fiberoptic at the plug lights when I shine a flashlight into it. So the car end of that is working. I dont have a good way to power the radio out of the car yet, so I dont know if the radio MOST is lighting. Onward with the saga!

I dont think its theft deterrent, as I've never read anything like that....
The screen replacement is easy, if you search there is a good tutorial on it here. The soldering is simple as its just a mechanical connection to keep the cage in place. If you don't know how to solder, you may want to practice on something else first. Travsi |

Yep SOS dings when I put the key in.
I picked up another radio that works. Funny part is, the SOS thing went away for a few days once I put that radio in. Now all of a sudden its back. Everything else works fine though. Travis |

That's the thing. I am used to doing this work. I have no trouble admitting that I must have screwed something up. I just can't see where. I know what to look for in "fried" electronic components. While they don't have to look bad to be bad, this is a simple enough procedure its shouldn't have fried anything.

of trying to do it yourself. The connectors are really tiny on that thing. There is always the chance of pushed in pins and badly seated connectors both on the front and back of the radio. |

You are right, its not really worth it except for the part that I like to know what happened. I'm treating it as a learning experience.
These connectors are actually larger than what I'm used to. I've had it back apart a few times. I am familiar with what to look for on these types of connection and even under a magnifying glass everything looks proper. Travis |

came covered with a protective tape on the contacts. The first time I did similar PC connectors I messed them up as I didn't know how they released. Maybe you get a bad new part. Also the electrical system in a BMW can really throw you some curve balls.(Due to the IBS and how it reacts to low battery power) electical e90 pdf http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...,d.cGU&cad=rja http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...85464276,d.cGU http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...85464276,d.cGU |

I also got a new radio but now I don't have any audio.
I've checked the radio fuses but they all look OK. The amp fuse I haven't been able to find in the limited time I had to look for it. 2006 325i stock amplifier. |

The radio has to be programmed to sound system and
whatever options you have on the car. The radio has a possibility or being programmed for three different systems. base , Hi Fi and Top Hi Fi the last is also called L7. If you put a radio in Hi Fi or Base system car that has been programmed for L7 you will get no sound. See explanation in the following link http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ght=bimmertech |
