Parting out your car and the responsibilities that we should all have.
I shouldn't have to come on this board and post this but I am pretty irritated with a recent transaction that I did with a fellow board member.
It should be the responsibility of all of us to be good sellers and buyers when we decide to part way with our cars and to offer the parts to someone else. If you are going to accept money from a buyer, you should be ready to ship the part within a day or 2 of receiving the money unless you have agreed to other terms. I have always taken this very seriously because I know that no one wants to give me money and not ship their part for a week or more. There needs to be good communication. If you ship said part, then you need to inform the buyer by PM, text, phone call, email, paypal or whatever method you choose with a tracking number or to let them know that it has been shipped. I have bought 3 parts on this board within the past 2 weeks and two of the sellers were excellent as the parts were shipped the same day or the day after I made payment. The communication was also excellent as I received tracking numbers from both shortly after shipment. The other part that I bought was not as successful. I agreed to buy a FMIC from another board member and the communication was great when we negotiated the price. I paid the member immediately after we agreed to a price. This was on June 26th and the member told me that they would ship the part on the weekend, which would have been June 27th or 28th. I heard nothing from the seller for 4 days. I sent multiple texts and on the 4th day the seller told me that the number that he gave me was his google voice number and that he doesn't get notified unless he is logged in. He said that he would box it up and mail it that afternoon, which would have been, June 29th . I told them that was not a problem and that I was looking forward to getting the item. I followed up with them a few days later by text to confirm that they did indeed ship FMIC and I still haven't gotten a response. I am setup with USPS, UPS and FedEx to alert me when I have something shipped to me and it appears that nothing has been shipped by any of these carriers. It would be possible if it was shipped first class via USPS and I would not know beforehand, but this is another issue. We should all ship with tracking information. So, it has been 8 days today and I have not gotten tracking information from the seller and I have no confirmation that the FMIC has been shipped. I am a very reasonable person and if something came up and it was communicated with me then I am sure that I would have been fine with it. The bigger issue is the lack of communication. I have a career that takes up a lot of my time, but I don't list parts for sale unless I have the time to ship them. The person that I bought this FMIC from has been on this board for a long time and has a track record so that is why I was comfortable paying them. I feel confident that they will either ship me the FMIC or return my money but transactions should not have to go like this. I don't really have the time to deal with someone not doing their part when it comes to doing what they said they would do. I am not going to list the person YET because things happen and I realize this. However, we live in world were there are multiple ways to communicate with people and it would take less than 30 seconds to handle this. I don't think that I am out of line here but I am curious how anyone else would handle this and/or if you agree with me. |

looks like a rant to me. its simple. you need to work it out with him privately not call him out publicly. if he doesn't reply or whatever, file a claim. I hope you used paypal and didn't GIFT the payment

I think anything under a week is fair... Just because an individual is selling a part doesn't mean they're at the beck and call of the buyer. Anything over a week though is excessive and especially excessive if its a business/company.
Don't get me wrong instant gratification is a terrible vice I have but even I've gotten better at it... If its a part you need to get your car moving and its your daily or something, then you should have probably gone over all that before the transaction and if he couldn't meet a timeline requirement find someone who could. Just my two cents. |

Yes these experiences are frustrating and do happen. It is unclear why the seller is not communicating, thats the important part. May be he is on vacation, may be an emergency, for the sake of benefit of doubt. Try pm since thats a google number. Give a clear deadline date and then file for a refund thru Paypal. In most cases thats how i go, no need to waste time trying to communicate multiple times w seller. Funnily it works that way.

Yes, I am not too concerned that I don't have the part after 8 days and I agree that 1 week is reasonable. What is not reasonable is the lack of communication.
There is more to this story in that another member had the same issue with this seller within the past few weeks. What is a reasonable amount of time before I contact Paypal, and yes, I did not gift the payment. I really hope that it doesn't come to that because I would much rather have the part. give it another couple of days before you do anything. like the other guy said, he might have an emergency situation or whatever. if no replies by then, file the dispute.

So impatient...
So many things can be going on, vacation, work... While yes he should communicate better, sometimes things happen and you can't ship right away. You have 45 days from payment with PayPal to file a claim. Its barely been a week if you paid on the 26th. |

If you are working or on vacation you have the ability to send a text message. If you were going on vacation and could't ship prior to leaving then it should have never listed it. |

Sorry to hear but if you don't hear back in a few days or so, file a claim. I bought something off a member here a couple months ago. He actually communicated well for the first 3 weeks and then nothing. I filed a claim and within a couple of weeks, I had my money back from PayPal. That's why I never gift any payments.

I totally agree, a week plus is way too long, if you can't ship it or haven't even removed it from your car, then you should not be taking someone's money for it. I box up my stuff before I post it, I know how big and heavy it is, how much it will cost to ship it and all I have to do is drop it off that day or the next day - not too hard - no need for someone screwing around for a week, that is just disrespectful to other members if not being communicated. Things come up, sending an email is easy, people will understand if there are extenuating circumstances, but unless you are physically unable to communicate it is just plain old disrespect.

If you take the money now, you need to ship now. Two days is the max for shipping, but most importantly, you have to be in communication daily until you ship. Everyone gets texts and emails on their phone. Delays like this are shady. I've been scammed before and this smells of it. There are many people here who have $20k builds but stiff people. I know of a couple myself. edit - I would post his name/handle. I would have put it in the first post. |

I want to let everyone know that this has been resolved. It took 11 days before it was shipped but I expect to get it this week. I still don't agree that this is how we should be doing business but I am at least happy to get what I have paid for. There are going to be those one off situations in which something comes up and can't be shipped and most people are reasonable but this should not be them norm. I have sold a lot of items on this board and others and I have always shipped the item right away and at the latest within 2 days.
I appreciate all of the replies and I am glad to hear that most of you agree with me. |

Sorry you had this experience man. I wish everyone could be great sellers/shippers, but that just isnt that case. If someone cant ship something in a timely manner, at least communicate with the person that bought it and make them aware!
p.s. hope you are enjoying the n20 tmap sensor!

Unfortunately this is the risk when buying used items in online classifieds anywhere.
I agree if someone is going to sell something, they should ship within 1-2 business days, otherwise don't post it up for sale until you can complete the transaction in a timely manner. My advice, by local or buy new from a trusted vendor. Peace of mind is always my priority with any transaction. |

That's pathetic communication and poor selling skills. OP has every right to rant and be annoyed. I'm sure a paypal claim would get the seller's attention - funny how quickly the messages start flowing after that notification that they're going to lose their money... |

And if you need something quick, better to go through a vendor than a random person selling a used part. You never know what can come up in someone's life. My situation would lead to some unexpected ship times. I have 2 houses atm and all my stuff is split up between the two. Im in the process of moving everything, but I couldnt tell you what I have at which house. If I was selling something, it could very well be at the other house, that is 2-3 hrs away depending on traffic, that I only go to on the weekends. I would hope someone wouldnt get upset if I couldnt ship out right away because of that... However, I do try to communicate my situations when I do sell things, but I also travel a ton for work, sometimes out of county, and am not always able to get to a phone to text or email. |

I didn't comment on the delay in shipping - there can be reasons for that.
I find it extremely difficult to believe that in today's connect world, that someone can't find half a minute to communicate. It takes literally 30 seconds to do so. Unless you're trapped in a cave, I don't see how in a period of 24 hours that you cannot be within capability of sending email or a text. That's just hysterical. |
