12.261 @ 112.40mph with stock downpipes/exhaust/intake
I took the 335i to Famosa (Bakersfield) today. I was hoping to get some runs in when it was still 45F in the morning. I got there pretty late, so by the time I got to run, the air temps were already warming up, and huge lines starting forming. I only got in 4 runs all day, and they charge $110 for driver and guest! Luckily my car performed pretty respectably.
I ran a 12.633 @ 111.22mph with the stock 18” wheels and RFTS. I think I probably have one of the quickest times for a 335i running stock RFTs. Stock Air Filter. Stock Exhaust, Down Pipes, Etc. Just the JB2HR and 97 Octane. I then decided to borrow Terry’s Drag Radials. Got a better ET and absolutely no reduction in MPH. As a matter of fact, my best MPH was with the DRs. In this configuration I ran: 12.261@ 112.40 mph. I’m pretty impressed considering that is was done with no down pipes, exhaust, no K&N, and still running the very heavy 18” run flats in front. The conditions: During the run with the RFTs it was about 2pm. Temp 66F, Barometer 30.07”, dew point 28.9F= 1158FT Density Altitude During the 6:30pm run with the Drag Radials: Temp 61F, Barometer 30.07”, dew point 35.1F+ 853 FT Density Alitude. There was a very gentle breeze that kept shifting directions. During my last run, it was actually remarkable how nice and calm it was outside, couldn’t see any leaves moving on the trees, but a very slight breeze. Even though the air wasn’t that warm, the sun was pretty strong. (People were asking for sunscreen). Inside the car it was pretty hot, and I had to run my A/C to try and cool it off inside of my car. Some guys in their Subies and SRT4s were telling my they usually ran lower 12’s and not 13’s like they were today. So they weren’t pleased with the ambient conditions. So basically the conditions were neither bad nor good. Just average. Good would be ATCO or Sacramento when its cold for the best trap speeds. I did run the Gtech on one of the runs. It was very accurate again. Without being able to run a calibration run, it was still within a few hundredths of a second compared to the time slip. Being the tester that I am, I did some test runs the other night. With the JB2R I was running around 12.8 @ 112+ mph. I then removed my K&N air filter and replaced it with the stock element. I installed the H-Pill. My best Gtech time on the run-flats was a 12.59, my best mph was 114.30 mph. This was with only a 50% mixture of 91 octane Union 76 and 100 octane Union 76. Makes sense comparing the 47F sea level conditions to 853-1158FT DA at Bakersfield. After talking to Terry, I realized that I should have been able to brake boost a lot more aggressively than I actually did. So I really believe a 12.1x was definitely a possibility. On the drive up to Bakersfield, I decided to try heavy throttle testing at 4000ft (Grapevine Summit) with just the JB2H (R switched off). Running only a 25% mixture of 100 octane mixed with 91 octane, I observed no CELs or adverse effects. But then again, it was only about 47F up there. Even though you had to wait forever between runs, I had a great time talking to the many car aficionados about their cars and modifications. Yesterday I was giving the canyon bikers a run for their money (see my You Tube video), and today the car did drag strip duty. And when driving home, I realized how nice the 335i is for flying down the freeway 2. The 335i is a truly remarkable car, and the Juice Box makes it even better! BMW's are remarkable cars! And Juicebox is a remarkably inexpensive, highly effective tune!! Another autocross instructor who drove my car once and rode with me was impressed with its power . Forge DV worked out VERY well too, and gave me fine throttle control.

You would think with all of this good JB publicity Shiv would come out with his DP map finally. *sigh*
Good numbers for the JB crowd though!

Please don't let this turn into that. All you will do is get the thread deleted and lose the essence of what is being said. The fact is the JB2HR car ran sick times on run flat tires. Let's keep our eyes on what is important.

Now I have to consider jumping to the JB ship since I like Terry and his products. I guess I will just wait around a little to see more conclusive JB and PROcede info.

Congrats Bro, those are great times, I thought the DA was better than that, so if you guys decide to run up at Sacramento, better times may be had.

With the DRs I fully turned off DSC and power braked to about 1500rpm on the launch. It was only my 2nd run with them and was getting used to them. Apparently I could have left with even more boost. Secondly, with the heavy run flats up front, and their rotational resistance, and less weight transfer, I think I could have dropped at least .005 seconds off of my time. Darn, I could have been in sole possession of the 3rd quickest 335i E.T on drag times.com. |
