OEM CF spoiler be attached with double sided sticky tape?

Hi everyone. I been a watcher on the forum for a while and I think this is my first post!

I recently got a OEM carbon fibre spoiler for the E90 and it came with betalink glue. But I was wondering is there anyone that has actually attached it using just double sided sticky tape? As in the future I may want to sell my car and remove it.

Will double sided sticky tape hold the spoiler down strong or can someone simply just rip it off? Where should the tape be applied for best results?

If anyone can help me that be great.

Thanks for your time!

I put on my E92 M3 spoiler with just tape and it won't come off unless I really want to remove it and that will take a significant effort to do such. This is the 4th spoiler I have applied with tape only. None has ever come loose. BTW, my brother in law is an auto body tech. He tells me that the tape is sufficient. I do not worry about someone trying to rip it off. It can be done with tools and a heat supply, but not easily

oem carbon fiber spoiler is hollow... might not be the best thing to use tape...

the spoiler CAN be applied with double sided tape although i wouldn't really suggest it. Yes it can be easily ripped off if someone really wanted to steal it and although this is a very rare case, i had a friend who was washing his car and all of a sudden his spoiler popped off (he used double sided tape as well). There are quite a few people running around with tapped spoilers just fine but i wouldn't want to be that one case where it falls off.

Yes, its hollow so the tape has very little area to stick to.
I used betalink on mine to make sure it doesn't come off.

There are also different kinds of double sided sticky tape. If I'm not mistakened, the 3m brand with the red backing is the best.

betalink if you don't want to lose your spoiler ...

double sided won't hold a trunk spoiler and most likely will stretch your tape and you drive ...

Betalink is removable in the future ... the process is slightly long and tedious ...

good luck

i used the 3m tape.
if applied correctly there will be no gaps. Actually, people who use beta link still have problems getting the very edges (where the trunk end) down all the way. They use clamps, but CF an crack.
And no, the spoiler will not fly off. The industrial strength is very strong. My E46 had the spoiler (with 3m tape) for 2 years until i sold the car.
Also, When i had to remove my old E90 Non-Mtech splitters, i had to pry them of with so much force that i thought that the paint would come off. It didn't.

you had no issues with the double side tape stretching?

it was applied and initially there were no issues with gaps and fitments issues. but once driven on the road, probably due to wind, the spoiler started becoming loose cause the tape was stretched ... i didn't use clamps but some painter's tape to make sure the spoiler stayed in place for 4 hours ...

i never had any problems with my old one or the current one.
On the current I average 300 Hihway (80mph) a week.
Its been through car washes and downpours. I keep checking on its stability and its tight as it can be.
I don't know which tape you used, but i used the industrial strength 3M tape that holds upto 5lbs. Now since the spoiler is pretty flat with the trunk i doubt that the wind exerts 5+ lbs or wind pressure on it.
Again i'm no physicist.

Oh, Thanks for your replies it is very much appreciated. It is just that the CF spoiler seems very light and living in the United Kingdom it wont surprise me if someone tried to rip it of my boot.

I think I was suppose to get some betalink tape but I didnt. I did read somewhere on the forum that somone used 3M tape to hold theres down.

I might have to DIY betalink it then....GULP!!!

i've had temps in the low 20's and its still holding tight....
It depends on the type of tape you use...

realistically though, if someone wants your spoiler bad, they'll pry it off with a knife or a screwdriver, which will def fux up your paint. Just because its harder to steal it doesn't mean people wont try it.
if you have a darker car, the CF doesnt stick out that much at all.
