Today I was doing a WOT pull, and during first gear near the end of the gear, I heard a loud POP. Lost all power and pulled over. Thought it was a CP coupling but checked it all and all secured. Started driving softly to a neighborhood, and hear the infamous "turbo siren" sounded like it was whaling, not whistling. No boost no code. My friend had a similar encounter when his turbine broke off. Didn't see any oil on the ground. Any thoughts?
Makes a clinking noise on idle on driver side.

Making no boost. If the inlet popped off it would still make boost wouldn't it?

when you shut off the engine does the noise continue and gradually go away?

Only made sound then on gas, drove home with waste gates open. I hear clinking during idle on turbo side.

Did you check all the charge piping? There are several couplings that could have come loose.

Checked intercooler to CP piping, and cp to throttle body. Any other pipes I should check?

How do you fix the turbo siren? I've heard it's a loose inlet, is this an easy DIY?

My rear turbo died a month ago, and except that I was in fourth gear at the time, all sounds and symptoms were identical. I had a lot of smoke when I was braking and going off the throttle, but none during normal driving.

I have had major boost leaks before (cp and vacuum hoses etc.), but a blown turbo meant no boost whatsoever. Felt like driving a ~150 HP car...

How do I know if my turbo(s) are actually dead?

There's a good chance your intercooler piping blew off somewhere. I'd pop the hood and inspect the chargepipes

You should be getting boost codes for a dead turbo or seeing some smoke.

When there is a boost leak you can definitely hear it spool louder, some people can get confused with that being the siren of death. Why not take it to BMW and pay 140 bucks to diagnose it?

You can find replacement OEM for about 1000 bucks

+1! In this case I would go somewhere and have a professional inspect it, if you didn't find the leak yet.
