Oil Leak

So I noticed oil leak under the car and took it to to BMW Manhattan this morning. they diagnose the issue, it is Rear Main Seal leaking, Stealership wants $3650 to fix it

Do you guys know any good shop around Queens/LI to get it fixed cheaper than Stealership?

That's a big ass job, best bet is get an extended warranty then have them cover it. Exactly what I did

How bad is the leak? Is it just a sweat type leak or is it a steady leak? How many miles? MT or AT xDrive or RWD?

It is a big job so i can see why they asked that much, but with a labor rate close to $200 an hour thats what your looking at, it includes dropping the driveshaft, tranny, xDrive system if equipped. The part itself is about 30 bucks, once again its the labor that kills. Shoot me a pm with all the answers to the questions i asked above and ill see what i can do for you

Report from Dealer says "Drove few times, found leak in Rear Main Seal and oil pan seepage"
so is it just Rear Main Seal or Rear Main Seal and Pan Gasket both leaking?

My car went in for HPFP and was told today that the rear main on my AT is leaking.
Under extended warranty. BMW quoting about $3600 to warranty company. OUCH!!!!
I'd convert to a MT if it was on my dime.

How much is a clutch job on these cars? I can't imagine a clutch job to take much less time.
But dang!!!

Motorcepts has always done a great job for a fair price. Give them a shot.

MNC over motorcepts for sure. Ever since motorcepts is under new management its different.
I don't want to quote MNC pricing but im willing to be less than 1k.

if you're in or close to North New Jersey, I suggest below mechanic to you.
his name is Elmor and he is Portuguese. he has his own shop.
cell# 201-282-1169
he works mainly on german cars, even "mini" car dealer brings him a few car to fix.
he fixed same problem on my e92 1,5 years ago.
I bought the part and paid him only labor (i don't remember exactly but total was $650 i think)
he was driving an e46
so he knows common bmw problems

Update,
went to locacl indy shop, they put car on lift and took covers off and showed me leak that it is from Rear main seal.

So my question is that since they will take the transmission out to replace Rear Main Seal, what other things I should consider getting replaced while transmission is already out? somebody told me I should also consider replacing Front Transmission Seal replaced? any other things you guys can think of?

route66 warranty for about $2400 will give you bumper to bumper coverage for 5 years or till you reach 100k miles. that comes out to about $500/year for insurance. if you already know you have a claim that will cost MORE than the insurance... it seems like a no brainer to me. go get a bank account at PenFed by donating $14 bucks and call it a day.
