High AIT with wagner evo 1, need bigger FMIC?

Hello guys

I have a problem with my AIT, I did some log with 23 psi map6, the AIT is getting too high. I have to wait a moment after every log, since the outside temp was only at 22°C, I want to be sure that the problem come from my FMIC that could be too small for my setup with 2 K04 at 23-24psi.

I want too be sure before I spend more money on a new FMIC. I'm not good to have a meth kit so I prefer to resolve this without it.

Thanks.

Garage List
76 degree increase from 3-5 is a bit high but better than stock. The only way you're going to lower that temp is to go with a heat exchanger with a larger core.

Yes looking at your logs, you definitely need a better intercooler ... Since we carry lots of different brands , let me know if you need any help and i can steer you in the right direction

Also while looking at IATs comparatively don't overlook RPM. You are revving it out to near 7000rpm in every gear while most logs especially with autos are sometimes not even revving to 6000rpm. This makes a huge difference in IATs.

edit: Just noticed you are running K04s at 23psi. You probably need the best intercooler you can find at those levels.

Agree with you about taking RPM into consideration but i still think OP's IAT are way too for an aftermarket intercooler

Thanks guys

I probably will go for the VRSF 7 still it's I think, the best for the price.

I agree but I don't think "for an aftermarket intercooler" is the primary variable for the high IATs. Those K04s are probably like running VTT stage 2 at 24psi to redline. Its an entry level intercooler never intended to work at those power levels (with two bigger than stock but small turbos running high boost and hot). Put it on a FBO with stock turbos at typical boost levels and taper it will probably be adequate if not overwhelming.

i agree the intercooler OP has is not good enough for the power level he is running

Ok so take a bigger FMIC is not the good solution? Since my turbos are ok to turn with 25-26psi, what is the best option here? I wish it was a system like the new M3 for the intercooler

What shall we say is the average AIT drop from stock intercooler to aftermarket say a 7 inch with stock turbo's? I have a 7inch VRSF and my temps are lower then stock but not quite what i would have expected (again, they are lower but 10 degrees or slightly more).

Ok then if I change the Wagner for the VRSF, the average will be not significant if I understand

Changing to 5" intercooler would not help by much
VRSF 7" would do better , it has been used on cars with bigger turbos and it showed good results.
In my opinion Evolution Racewerks would work best on cars with bigger turbos.

I have an ER kit and very happy with it !

One thing I do wish is I would have stuck with the Carbon fiber air duct. I canceled it off my order at the last minute because I didnt want to remove the front bumper. But the tech I had install it at my work removed the bumper in about 5 minutes so its not that big of a deal. Only reason is the bottom row is blocked by the factory bumper so it would let more air flow through the core on the bottom.

And the black anodized option is super stealthy if you dont want people to see it. But if you get the CF shroud its kind of noticable anyways.

Bigger isnt always better. Need to look at quality of core that is used in the kit.

Wagner makes 4 intercoolers,

Performance and Competitions as well as Evo 1 and Evo II:
Bar and Plate VS Tube and Fin
Stock Fittings VS Aftermarket

They would all perform differently. The Competition Series EVO II would be their highest performing. It seems like you have the performance intercooler with the stock connections.

Yes, I have the performance one. Don't know if the evo 2 competition can be a good choice for my setup.
