This is so depressing. We dont need yet another diesel in the 5er. We need a fully electric drivetrain. And not a hybrid one, electric only. It is so much better in all aspects. No gear switching, no complicated engine. Just an electric engine with a fixed gear.

We all need an electric one? lol.... Once battery technology has moved on sufficiently, then unfortunately or fortunately hybrid is the best compromise.

Bring the diesels to the states please. And some smaller diesel cars as well, not only mob bosses and retirees are interested in them.

The posters above me should just go buy a tesla and enjoy its far superior one gear card trick electric engines.

My last two Road Trips would not have been practical in an electric car... glad I took the diesel.

Lol No We need more research into better handling and performance and to ditch completely electric and hybrid. This isn't Toyota. Our competitors are right on top of us for handling and acceleration. The performance margin is gone and research wasted on this electronic crap. Soon BMW will become just another car if they keep this up.

The 5er will be the first BMW to offer three e-Drive models including the Performance 550e.

This engine will not be offered in the US as BMW have moved all focus on the 740eDrive and discontinued the 740d which never sold well.
Thai will also be available as the M550d.

You don't want diesel cars in the states.

They give children cancer.

Diesel is dead in the UK.

The future is petrol election hybrid.

Sorry to disagree , but that "Diesel is dead in the UK" is an incorrect statement. In fact more car manufacturers are bringing in more diesels with cleaner exhausts and they are making these more efficient ones in the European factories.

The only people trying to stop the the diesels are the left wingers and Boris living in certain boroughs in London.

sorry but i agree, diesel, sadly, is dead in the UK. Car sales are showing it, petrol sales growing significantly ahead of diesel. Tax collectors are firing stupid salvos at diesel cars. Also its clearer that if you do less than 10K a year petrol works out better overall.

Neil.
