Anyone running the Hexon RR550 turbos?

Just curious on what the experience has been like for those running Hexons. Price seems fantastic and it looks like it could be a viable turbo upgrade option for us 6AT guys needing new snails while keeping transmission longevity in mind.

I am Installing a set now and just fabricated some custom Inlets and 2" custom fabricated aluminum charge pipes merged into 3" intercooler inlet and full 3" intercooler to throttlebody charge pipe. I have a maxboost, n20 sensor and a couple tunes (93+meth and e50+meth) to try out on our 2008 135i automatic car.

Mods on the car are:

Hexon RR550s
Aquamist hsf4 w/ 90/10 mix
CPE Downpipes
NGK plugs 5992 gapped at .020"
Cobb race stepped intercooler
MHD Flasher
BMS OCC
3.08 large pumpkin rear w/LSD
Drag radials
Walbro 450 e85 pump
Freshly walnut blasted during turbo install

I will be dialing the tune in with Ken once it's up and running and once that's good I will strap it on the Dyno for some pump and e50 pulls to get some data to post up and then will be taking it to the track for some 1/4 mile runs. We have some baselines times and speeds on the FBO, with 93/meth, Cobb stage 2+ so it should be a good comparison and some real world data and Dyno track times for those who are interested. Will be 2 to 3 weeks before its ready so please be patient, I am having to make 3 of everything for fixturing so its a bit more time consuming then a simple Install.

Thanks!

Chris

How would you compare them to the stockers? Any dyno runs?

Keep us posted

And do we expect these to be on the same level as RB's? Or perhaps a step down?

What would make these better than say RB's?

I have two sets that are going to be installed this weekend. One on a 535xi E61 and the other on the 335i. Ken is making up the custom mapping for both of them.

Another 535xi E61 on the other forums will install a set shortly as well, I would expect dynos to soon follow.

Hexon always has great customer service.

I'm in for dyno results as I'm in the market for new turbos. What's the difference between these and the 500

They are coming. We are going to see what 30 PSI yields on the dyno

We tuned them in gear to gear on the street to achieve "realistic power"

These can hit 30psi?! Impressive. Their website only states that they can hit 21psi. Can't wait for results.

Need. Turbos. Badly.

That is probably a manufacturers recommendation or perhaps what they are stating it will hold to redline?

Most turbos can make more boost in the mid rev ranges as the engine isn't ingesting as much air over the same period of time as in the upper rpm range. I am excited to see how these perform on our build, I have pulled out all the stops on getting maximum flow on Inlets and charge pipes, so it will take a little bit of time to finish it up.

We were able to hold 27 PSI to readline on these turbos. However this was on a car with a PI system and upgraded inlets and fully FBO

21 PSI to redline sounds about right for these turbo on a regular FBO car with stock inlets. However, I would highly recommend anyone doing a turbo ugprade to also upgrade their stock inlets at the same time
