Anyone know this car ?

This has come up for sale near me ( Paisley, Glasgow Arnold Clark ) Car is a 58 plate with 80k miles but it says in the description 5+ owners that seems quite a lot for a car this age. Also it has the newer style sat nav in it but for a 58 plate that would have had to be done by one of the owners and not from factory right ?

I dont know the car, but when you say the newer style sat-nav, do you mean the CIC? If so, mine is also a 58 plate with the same CIC as these came in late 2008

58 plate could be a genuine CIC. CIC production was late 2008.

A high number of owners would make me think the car's possibly had problems and has been regularly moved on. I suppose you could contact BMW with the VIN and see it's history of going into the dealerships for work done. This would at least cover the first 3 years of manufacturer's warranty.

I have read threads where cars with reg. plates beginning Y, were BMW UK cars and were then moved into dealer demos which could count for 2 owners.

And my own 335i bought last year on a 59 had 3 prior owners and no problems at all, so owner numbers are not always a bad sign.

I think if you go for it, there must be scope to negotiate the price (seemed a lot to me) down, for example alloys looked in need of some work and 5 owners does devalue a car.

Thanks mate, Yeah think i will give this one a miss. its in arnold clark so likely its been traded in and why put 5+ owners that could mean anything really.... also not a fan of the colour and its an auto..... oh well on to the next one

no not gone off the e91 just keeping my options open as a nationwide search for an e91 in my price range is giving 15 cars :thumb down. I like both e91 and e92 for different reasons but i honestly couldn't say i would prefer one over the other so just keeping a look out for both which gives me around 80 cars nationwide in my price range

As soon as you said Arnold Clark, that was enough.

Don't take the risk to buy off that company. They have a deplorable record of selling duds and that car already has question marks.

Even on brand new cars they will do all they can to worm out of doing the right thing.

Also what's the numbers written on the front and the back windows?

I'm guessing they are numbers for the local car auctions?

My brother was looking at cars recently. He seen a couple in Arnold Clark's dealers that were also sent out to auctions.

They do now seem to try and sell a few older cars from their dealerships that would have normally gone straight to auction. They were asking too much at the dealer, but the cars sold really cheap at auction.

15 is a big choice when looking for a rare car!
When I was looking for mine I only ever had a choice of 5 at best for months

I suppose... just checked there on Auto Trader and when i specified the search for manual cars there is only 2 nation wide..... due to this reason i am willing to settle for an auto but it would need to tick most of the other boxes if that was the case.

dest i was just reading the thread on your car, stunning car and think you have definitely made the right choice to hold onto it. I think i have learned my lesson on selling a good car so quickly, in the past the right car has always come up just at the right time, not this time though

thanks for the info guys but i have written this car off as an option now. My eye has wondered to audis now aswell. circa 2010 A4 avants are nice looking cars but the diesels seem very slow compared to the BMW diesels and the only petrol engine is the 2.0 TFSI which gives decent performance and again very rare

The Audi diesels don't only seem very slow, they ARE pretty slow compared to the BMW diesels.
I tried the 3 litre as a replacement for my 335d when it got bent. I didn't expect similar performance, but on a well known (to me) stretch of road, the Audi (A4 Sportback) was a good 30mph slower than the BMW. I cut short the test drive and took it back - no contest for me, back to BMW!

As for the VAG group petrol engine oil usage - my wife has a Skoda Fabia vRS - with the later type engine - and that needs about 500ml per 1000 miles. She doesn't give it stick and does mostly short runs. That sort of consumption is manageable, but shouldn't happen in this modern age - my 40-odd year old MG doesn't use that in 3000 miles!
However, it is a lot better than some reports of consumption in these engines, and 180bhp from a 1.4 is quite impressive, and is an entertaining drive!

IMO the audi diesels are quicker than BMW. 335d is in a different category to the normal 3.0 TDI VAG engine though.

2.0TDI audi engine I find are quicker than 320d etc in both gearboxes.

I have driven A5 3.0d and it seems about same as 330d

bhp figures don't mean everything.

my x6 has got 286bhp but I know for a fact a 220bhp car with less weight will beat me.

320d are really slow for a 177bhp. have you driven a a3 2.0 tdi 170? they come off the mark really quick and keep on going.
