E90 Jb4 Boost Issues
Hey guys so I've finally insured my e90 335i.
However, when I floor it on map 1 or 2 my fuel/boost gauge only goes to half. Which I think is 10psi for half way right? Anyways a lot of the time on map 2 it will only go to half, but sometimes it will boost way earlier and hit 3/4 on the gauge and spin tires in second. Why does this happen? I've only driven the car for less than 25km could that be why? But it makes no sense since map 2 is a constant 14.5 psi. By the way I have dci, vrsf dp and jb4 g5 is. Also when I parked the car and put it in neutral it randomly went into max cool, but oil temp were at 90-100 but I think that was just an accident in the settings. |

JB4 is inactive until oil temp hits 160F. Stop going WOT until your car is properly warmed up. If you oil temp is above this and it is still doing it, get a log.

IvansE90 I suggest you learn more about what you have. Visit
http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10605 There it tells you what all the menus on your JB4 do, what maps do what, and links to learn how to fine-tune your car. I would also suggest that you leave it on Map5, since you are not completely bolt-on yet, and you still need to do some learning before you can start playing around with Map3 and really turning up the boost. I use Map3, but I'm FBO, stg2 LPFP, VTT Single Barrel Shotgun, 70%e85/30%91, TFT Inlets, and my list goes on. I'm putting down 516rwhp-537rwtq with some room to spare on the tuning side. Your safest bet to figure out what's going on is to do some logs in Map1, Map2, and Map5. You'll get the most power right now out of Map5 because it auto-tunes to conditions constantly so you're always running at "optimal" settings. |

The thing is, I get EXTREMELY better performance on map 5 vs map 1 or 2. Unfortunately, I can't do any logs as I have yet routed my usb cable, and I don't know where I can redline 3rd gear as it most likely is at 160km/hr? I am not worried about map 1 or 2 as I am completely happy with map 5. In the near future I am planning to get a fmic and cp and backend flash to complete my build. I just want to make sure that I won't hurt my car by running/dailying my car on map 5 with the upgrades that I currently have. P.S. I will definitely research the JB4 much more in depth as I clearly have a lot to learn!

I don't get why lets say map 2 is 14.5 psi and I cant run it in my car, but map 5 I get a tad more than 15psi and I can run it? That doesn't make sense to me.

You know to really be definitive you need to hook up that usb and do some logs and then you can see the real boost number..it's hard to get the exact number from the gauge...and you could send that to jon@bms.Com or post at n54tech for advice.

Verify firmware/settings are correct. Isn't there new firmware/settings that can make map 1 15psi and map 2 17psi for back end flash users. Just brainstorming possibilities of why map 5 would work and not map 2. Also running map 2 without intercooler is fine. Your not FBO without it but that's not the requirement. DPs are the requirement as it keeps EGTs down significantly by removing the choke (close coupled factory cats). 14.5 peak boost is still pretty conservative IMO. Map 1 and 2 exist because they are absolute targets and some people want consistency or an absolute target all the time.

Depending on your mods, elevation, octane and temperatures will determine how much you can run on the top end. |

take logs. map 1 is probably the best map for you with those mods. map 2 is usually too aggressive on the stock flash without a fmic or e85, as is map 5, they'll pull a lot of timing.
