Water pump died at 60k miles... Cobb tuning related?
I have a 2009 E92 335i... my water pump died at just about exactly 60k miles. I think it was like 59,990. Reading other posts, this seems to be VERY common, so I'm assuming it's just [crappy] normal.
Paid $1300 to get it fixed at an independent shop in Schaumburg (Chicago suburb), which seems to be a reasonable price based on the other posts I read. So getting to my real question... I just had the Cobb Stage 1+ kit installed like 2 weeks ago. BTW, freakin' AMAZING! New downpipes on backorder, stage 2+ once they come in later this month... cannot imagine even faster. But I digress... The stage 1 kit is all on the intake side: high flow filter, FMIC, and charge pipe. Is the water pump failing possibly related? Is there anything about the tuning or possibly the shop screwing something up that could have caused the water pump to fail. I expect not, but just wanted to make sure. Thanks! |

More power=More strain
Water pump is probably running more to keep the engine cool, but that's not the COBBs fault directly. Mine just went at 48k, but the trend is 60k that the majority of them fail. |

Probably not related but mine died the first week I put the JB4 in at 55k. Exactly 1 day after the HPFP went out lol. Mine was covered by an extended warranty the bill was 700 total.

$1300??!! Ouch. Did mine (plus thermostat...hope you did that too) for about $425. Ramps, a couple hours and basic hand tools - it's a pretty straight forward job. I can't fathom paying someone $900 in labor to do that job.
