to go from crude to pump gas requires refining.

gas companies have been clamping down on refining output to keep prices high.

for example, i read sunoco recently shut down a refinery (during the high driving summer season) for "unspecified repairs".

so simple supply/demand.

and yes, we are getting bent over. oil companies/execs making record profits. and they still get subsidies / tax break. f-ing bullshit.

Also some states are increasing the gas tax. PA did at the beginning of the year. Smart move as people didn't really notice with the lower gas prices. By the time they go up again there won't be anger at the state.

Happy now?

Crude prices down nearly 60% since this time last year. But profits only down around 40-50%.

Sounds bad, but considering expenses of R&D, exploration, personnel, it's pretty damn good in perspective. But I guess you have an axe to grind given your smug (sounding) response.

Is there something you want to know that hasn't been addressed in the popular press?

All the best.

Just be glad you missed the rationing and long lines of the Oil Crises in the early and late 1970s. People were nearly apoplectic over 50¢/gallon gas, to say nothing of having to wait in long lines to pay that "astronomically high" price for it.

All the best.

I've heard of these stories. Matter of fact, back in 2011/2012 there was a somewhat gas shortage for a week in my area (1.5 hours north of NYC) where there were lines but not as long as above and gas stations had no gas. Kinda stressful when my daily then was a E39 M5

Did you ever sit in the line only to have the station run out just as you got a car or few away from "your turn?"

IIRC, our 1972 (? -- maybe older or newer by a year, don't recall precisely, but it doesn't matter either way) Buick Electra got about 10 mpg if driven "normally" (don't have a heavy foot lest you'll be in single digits, but I don't think it got so bad that it was measured in gallons per mile...LOL) and a 25 gallon fuel tank.

Interestingly, that car was two feet longer than a current 7 Series, weighed about 400lbs more, and had four inches less legroom in the back seat, but had about five inches more shoulder room in the front and back. I found the last detail funny because it means that as Americans have gotten wider, luxury cars have gotten narrower. LOL

All the best.

Didn't know you could do a adblue delete. Does it make the thing smoke like a diesel truck with stacks? Damn 2.28 is cheap!

Really not that bad, only when it's cold or when you put the hammer down - been DPF free on the Jetta for a year now...

Leaving the cat and muffler canister on the Treg....but she'll be north of 500 lb ft torque, about 300 hp...sub 6 to 60 SUV

I was a young child at this time and my parents owned a 70 Mach1 Mustang with a 351 Cleveland big block. It was a converted dragster, got maybe 12 mpg....

Funny how some events from your early memories are seared into the brain....
