More bass needed
Hi guys, I have a 2011 335is with the harmon kardon sound system. IMO it still lacks on the bass. I'd like to upgrade the subs under the seats but dont know if that'll be worth it or not. Or if i should just get 2 10 inch subs in my trunk.
I want to feel the bass in the car. but dont want to have crazy raddle. So if you guys could suggest some subs, amps and a nice set up that'd be appreciated. ![]() |

Yes. Get a corner loaded sub enclosure, an amp to power it, and the appropriate Technic harness and you should be good to go.
Didn't look at the link that kaigoss posted, but he knows what he's talking about so I'd take a look.

That setup should give you plenty of bass from a single 10... Unless you want to go crazy. But more than enough for 95% of us I'd say.

![]() In all seriousness, if you're only after volume (and not Sound Quality), then just throw a box in the trunk with 2 15s and a 2000W amp and call it a day. It'll rattle your car allright...

Hit up forum member Csu87, he seems to have info on a reasonably loud 10" corner setup.

Their 1400w each. And there's a lot of adjustability with how much bass you want. You can adjust them from stock bass to stupid bass real quick.

Lots of variables as far as budget, goals (quality vs loud or a mix of the 2), do you want to be able to use the trunk...
What I have in my car currently is a fiberglass corner enclosure with a Sundown SA-10 powered by an Incriminator Audio 10.1. Link to build - http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1017588 ![]() The SA-10 provides pretty good quality, while also having the ability to get loud and low, and I would recommend it for anyone who is looking to push 500-1500watts rms to a sub. http://www.sundownaudio.com/index.ph...sa-series.html As for amps, Incriminator Audio 10.1, Sundaown SAE-1000D or the Soundqubed 1200.2 are the three companies that I have used many times in the past with great results. http://www.incriminatoraudio.com/ind...ono-block.html http://www.sundownaudio.com/index.ph...e-1000dv2.html http://www.soundqubed.com/Q1-12002-Amplifier_p_30.html For rattling, you are going to have to use some sound deadener to reduce the rattles, even with a low power setup. I used 2 layers some cheap ebay stuff, which is just as good as most the name brand stuff, just a lot cheaper, and didnt have any rattles, even with the below system. 2 Custom built 10" Subs I made powered off a 6kw Popcorn Sounds Amp, and enough batteries to be able to keep the voltage up above 12v for burps. Was able to just barely squeeze out a 150.1 before I pulled it out. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

You'd be surprised how much of an improvement it is to amp the factory underseat woofers externally.
I'm pushing about 100w RMS to my stock L7 woofers and the bass has improved a ton. You need to be careful setting your gain though or you will blow them. |

At the very least, the gas cap will always rattle. The license plate does too but you can limit this somewhat by wedging foam between the trunk and plate. I had a single 12" in a sealed enclosure and while there weren't many rattles that can be heard INSIDE the cabin, standing outside was a whole other story. I can't imagine how bad it will be with 2, 12"s in a ported or bandpassed enclosure! |

With my 2 10s giving out competition level dbs, you was able to elinimate rattles in the trunk, but not throughout the entire car completely. But it took a decent amount of deadener to do that. Quote:
No offense, but there are a lot of guys out there that think their system is "loud" but until you go to a comp and get on a meter and actually hear some of the high db systems, you have no idea. Id been doing car audio db comps for years up until the last couple, and every competition, there would be 1-2 guys show up with their system, say they are hitting 150+, then get blown away. I had a pair of 12s off a 3500watt amp set a MECA unofficial record at 153.xx at the headrest. Same pair of 12s would pull 155s in the kick and 153-154 at the dash. At those levels, your eyes are rattling and everything is blurry. |

not sure this works, yes a better amp is a great addition but the std subs are nasty muddly garbage regardless of what drives it. I'd go with a corner sub of decent (not stupid money) quality and see how you get on. the whole set up in a 3 series is a disaster, stock speakers are too small and far too nasty, driven by a messed up amp trying to correct for the wrong speakers. The things under the seat whilst able to take massive abuse are just horrible. if you have no taste and like the sound coming from the rear seat floor mats the stock set up is great !!! |
