Woodcliff Lake, NJ – September 1, 2015…

6 series sales have been abysmal all year long, surprised they are not raising residuals or giving build out cash on the 2016's.

The 2016's have been out since march and they still only show 2015 lease offers on bmwusa. At this rate, I wouldn't be surprised if there is no 2017 6 series.

For a car company that some driving enthusiasts argue has lost its way, BMW seems to be doing just fine.

While we can complain about numb steering, lack of road feel, the logic of naming the 4 series, the increased size of the 3 series, the run flat tires, the missing dip sticks, the inferior materials used in the f30 interior, m badges used all over the place, the diesel sound of direct injection, fake engine noise piped through the audio system, etc, etc, etc, BMW continues to sell more cars than ever.

With market pressures to sell to a broader audience, safety regulations, environmental regulations, and technology evolution in play, BMW will never build the car we loved yesterday.

I think the group of products BMW offers are pretty darn great as a whole. Just sayin'

Don't think the two topics are related. BMW is offering more models than ever, sales evidently are going to go up. Their growth rate compared to last year is actually smaller than that of Audi/Mercedes. The car business in general is really good right now. Audi and Mercedes are beating their old sales records by a larger margin. Audi is crushing their old sales numbers.

Sales seem to increase every August when current models are offered with good lease deals and generous financing.

To be fair, Audi has improved substantially in their offerings with the popular A3/S3 selling very well and I suspect the new A4 will help too. Mercedes has had tremendous success with the CLA and GLA too as well as their redesigned C-Class. BMW was late to that party but they're hopping on the FWD bandwagon in the US soon enough.

You make an excellent point. Certainly its good to be in the car business right now.

The two companies you mention, Audi and Mercedes make plenty of models that are not designed for the driving enthusiast. Like BMW, Audi and Mercedes also make cars that are targeting the driving enthusiast. Yet, for some reason some BMW enthusiasts bash the brand for also building soft cars. Certainly BMW is partly to blame for continuing with the "Ultimate Driving Machine" theme when you actually have to choose the right model and pay extra for it to achieve that ride that once came out of the box.

For those who think BMW has lost its way but still like the brand, they simply have to spec a car with the features/options that give them the ride they want. For those who complain that the base cars no longer have the BMW feel, they not looking at the business side of the situation. Many drivers do not want a stiff, sport-like ride. BMW has chosen to address that market and they have been successful in doing so.

6 Series YTD sales are more than 4x those of the Z4.
And the average selling price (and margins?) of the 6 are higher than the Z4.

With the number of new models launched in last 12 months they should be growing more than this. What has happened to the i3. Public not ready for volume electric cars at this price point ?

Whatever do you mean? They've sold almost twice as much year over year.

True but the 6 series went down about 50% compared to last August, and they released the lci in march. If the lci is selling worse than the previous model year, then something is wrong.

It is down 5% on a year that they were probably projecting to be up on.

Gotcha. The weird thing is, I rarely ever see 320i's. But pretty much everything else you described are most of the F30's I see. Most all of them are 328i's though. In fact, I probably see more 335i's than I do 320i's.

US - Arlington, VA (metro DC area). And I agree with AW, it's not even a metallic color. Around here, you're convinced that somewhere someone is giving away 328i xDrives by the sheer number of them.

And the thing with MW is that u pay for a metallic paint but people can't really tell unless they look closely. Certainly noway to tell from distance, kinda waste of money
