Would you buy off Gumtree
Hi chaps
Seen this car on Gumtree, looks very nice and a good price for very low mileage. HPI all looks clear and has full BMW service history so far, but he is getting it serviced tomorrow at non-BMW garage. http://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-m...car/1131511686 Providing I see copies of all the service stamps and the MOT checks out ok is there anything I should be wary off? Thanks! Update: did mot check and odd discrepancy in 2013? Typo by MOT or car used as a taxi for a year? Lol Last edited by Nickyg; 09-01-2015 at 05:06 PM.. |

Yep, the guy was shocked when I told him. The HPI has no mileage between 2010 and 2015 but he hadn't checked MOT stats when buying. Said he thought it was odd the guy who sold it didn't have the 2013 MOT doc. I'm walking well away from that one! Goes to show you have to do your checks, a lesson learnt from my last car!

Change of details and now it has 37,000 fewer miles on it? Hmmmm

In all fairness, its an 05 car that had 42k in 2012. It seems unlikely that someone did 45k in a year in this car. Someone with that mileage to do would have bought a diesel.
Still. I'd avoid as there are plenty more cars out there. |

I've bought off Gumtree before and got a bargain.
It's not unheard of for an MOT garage to make a mistake with mileage. Do you think a manual typed for could be mistaken for an 8? If you are convinced the mileage should have been 47k instead of 87k, can you persuade potential buyers when you come to selling it? |

Yeah, he phoned the service stations and it seems most likely human error at MOT but I don't need the hassle when selling down the line.
I found a really nice 325i 06 plate on the trader today with 85k genuine on the clock for a shade over £4k which I am very happy with so I'm going to pick that up at the weekend. |

Auto trader is full of cooks these days....
Check this http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classifi...ault&logcode=p It is HPI Clear car but when you check the history of miles, then this car has done 150K few years ago. Seller is adamant that he would take CASH ONLY. So you never know what you come across. In my opinion cheap cars are cheap for a reason!

I'm going for this one http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classifi...?atmobcid=soc3
All checked out and seems like a nice car for the price, with a little knocked off obviously! It's only when you start looking for a car that you realise there are some right shady geezers out there. |
