Can anyone loan a N55 turbo manifold for 3D scanning?

Looking to start a new project , but first need a N55 turbo manifold assembly to 3D scan for reference.

If someone out there has access to one of these and can send it to me, I can scan the part and provide you scan data (generally an STL file). 3D scanning of this part would probably be in excess of $1000 value (if I were to charge for it, but you get it free). Manifold will be returned after scanning (I probably will need it for about 2 weeks). Turbo does not have to be in working order on it.

I'll be designing an N55 CNC turbo manifold in SolidWorks once I have this scan information. My sickness of engineering parts for cars looks like it will never die. This could also be a collaboration with a vendor too...PM me if interested. N55 guys need something bigger than Pure Stage 2s. I'm confident this engine can make more HP than "equal turbo" equipped N54s. N55 heads should be key.

I'm just tired of all the chicken and egg issues with N55s. If we have a turbo kit available, it will start to push other development. I'm just trying to contribute where I can. Not many have access to the tools I have along with the skills to use them.

I could also benefit from turbo inlets. Let me know if you have an OEM laying around for E9X or F3X

As I believe there is a one month window from the time a Pure 2 is installed until it must be back for core credit, maybe someone here can send you theirs on the backside. Then you can get to work with Pure on Darkhold's next upgrade, Pure Stage 3.

I wish they were working on a stg 3.. However, highly unlikely.. I'm forced to get crafty :-D

We need more people willing to try new things to move the progress forward. So I'm all about the OP

And indeed there is no pure stage3 in the works... They will be working on S63/B58 next as far as I am aware.

They claimed it did a while back, but there is no N55 option on their site, and I have never read about any testing. I think they had speculation that they would adapt it to the N55 platform, but never did. I'm not just going to be copying their manifold design, that is for sure. I'm not a huge fan of the flow parameters of it and would like a shot at improving on it. It has a pretty invasive install too.

Regardless, I am going to try to make the effort to get these things done on our own. There is some engineering required to get the manifold scanned and the pickup points documented in 3D space. We will work out from there. I just refuse to sentence my car to a year in the garage while I gather all the required bits....that's where the community can help me out.

Unless I get a vendor to step forward, most of these things will be available "open source" to the community to tinker with.

I spoke with Jake from Motiv and he informed me that he doesn't believe it will fit correctly. There would need to be modifications made. Thus, I have opted to reach out to other sources.

I wanted to make sure that the manifold was divided and runners roughly the same length. I have opt'd for a top mount setup vs bottom. I have reached out to a great n54 fabricator and he would love to get a fitment car however, I am in AZ and he is in CA.

OP, what kind of ETA would we be looking at once you have the manifold imaged. Are you imaging to get an oem design style manifold? Any chances of a Top Mount Version?

I'm still trying to source a loan on some parts. Darkhold has offered, but I rather use him as last resort to save on hastle and shipping through customs. It's probably easier for me to try to find one on Ebay, and then sell it when complete.

Does anyone else have inlets?

Not really. I'd prefer something local-ish. Darkhold is the only offer, but I'd rather not inconvenience him with international shipping.

It is looking very promising on this issue being resolved (actually best case scenario).

Manifold in hand! (big thanks to mwtrogus) for working with me on this.
Now I need to start the scanning over the next couple of days.

I would love to see a Borg Warner 7163 stuffed in there! That turbo should mate great to the N55. Full boost below 3k and power well in to the mid 500's without pushing it hard.

It is stupid expensive and doesn't even come with integrated WG or BV. I hate to say it, but this is probably not going to be an option.

http://www.full-race.com/store/efr-t...0-turbo-2.html

This is the ideal turbo IMO, but I could see where an airwerx might be more economical and come in the 90deg compressor housing we need
http://www.agpturbo.com/borg-warner-...-66-73-177284/

6266 would be another option too.

The BMW design logic of 10lbs in a 5lb bag is tough to work with. There is no room for design mistakes or errors on the hotside of this engine. I'm not playing a shell game either where I design a top mount. You keep having to relocate everything that you displaced and also have the nice benefit of burning your car to the ground or melting other parts.

Got to get this thing scanned and then try to get a high flow, log manifold design that puts the turbo CLs back as close to stock despite the turbo being a standard CW spin.

I'd love to do a cast manifold because that allows me much more freedom with respect to complex geometry over a CNC plate (SteedSpeed-ish) construction. I have both CNC and casting contacts, but only CNC development money . 1 off cast parts are pretty pricey due to plate tooling to create the sand patterns. I'll check into it though.

I'm shooting to have a 3d printed prototype manifold to test-fit by the end of the year.
