M3 duct DIY
For CYL and other peps interested doing this duct transplant on the M3 rep bumper
The M3 rep bumper is supplied with M3 rep air ducts. These ducts have stepped sides and a tapering shape that ends in a narrow hole. Pic 1 - M3 rep ducts fitted to M3 rep front bumper. Notice the ugly stepped sides Pic 2 - M3 rep ducts, tapered to a narrow hole that leads to the wheel well Last edited by Socket; 09-06-2015 at 09:55 AM.. |

Genuine vs replica M3 ducts
Fortunately both ducts have the same size opening, so fitment on the rep bumper is 99% The genuine ducts have some metal plates fitted that need to be removed and discarded They are also longer so they will hit oil cooler, fender lining etc without major trimming Here are some pics showing how to prepare the ducts including some side by side views Last edited by Socket; 09-06-2015 at 10:00 AM.. |

Remove Bumper
Next step is to remove the bumper. Plenty of DIYs on this out there, but here is a step by step if you are too lazy to look one up Last edited by Socket; 09-06-2015 at 09:38 AM.. |

Trim and attach new ducts
Put the bumper face down to get access to the back of the vents and test fit the ducts Trim the ducts at a point so that when you look through the front, you can't see daylight On the passenger side vent, its about 20-30mm from a ledge halfway down the duct On the drivers side vent, its on a 45 degree angle about the same distance from the top edge. Its difficult to explain, just refer to the pics Next step is to glue them in place I was going to use double sided tape but it doe not stick well the the smooth plastic bumper I finally opted for a generic plastic glue and taped in place while it was drying Pics of passenger side vent install and finished result Last edited by Socket; 09-06-2015 at 09:47 AM.. |

Reattaching the bumper
Fit the bumper and make sure the new ducts are not hitting anything, otherwise remove and do more trimming When done, reattach the parking sensors, head light washers and do up all the screws, reversing the removal process described above If you followed these steps, the end result should look like this, including air flow directed to your oil cooler Congrats Last edited by Socket; 09-06-2015 at 10:02 AM.. |

Remember when I was asking what does it look like when you look up the duct so to speak, thats what I was after Personally when I install an M3 bar with the ducts I think I'm going to try and put some mesh at the back of the duct, as if you had large rock say 1" in size at speed go up the duct it could smash your oil cooler causing damage. Great work on the DIY |

Good point DrJ. BTW you cant see the oil cooler unless you get on the ground and look up into the duct (ie its hidden when looking front onto the car) So the rock has to bounce in just the right way If it happens Ill take it as a good excuse to upgrade to a sport oil cooler lel |

Thanks Socket!!!
What about the passenger side? Does the duct connect to anything? Or just any wind going through the duct will just hit the wheel lining? If so, I feel like cutting a hole to let the wind blowing to the brake. |

Pretty sure it directs air into the engine bay, the wheel lining is in between the brakes and the ducts. Pretty sure you can hack a hole in the lining but it would look hmmmm well, hacked lol
