Brake Maintenance Question

I received the error code CC-ID 71 plus the "brake" light is illuminated.
I bought the car used and have been driving for about 45K miles. The previous owner told me he had the brakes serviced (new pads and rotors) just prior to me purchasing the car from him. So, it seems to make sense that I need to replace the pads. But...

I looked at the pads and they seem to have a lot of thickness left, both front and back. The front actually look like they have more life. Actually, it surprising how much thickness they have considering the number of miles I have driven although most have been lengthy work commutes with little braking.

What is confusing me, is that if the brake light is illuminated, doesn't that mean that the sensor tripped? Or, is it a timer? And, if the sensor trips, that of course means that one of my pads wore down to the sensor unless, the sensor faulted. Is that possible?

Anyways, I have attached a picture of the brake pad. Appreciate your thoughts.

The pad wear sensors are on the respective pads on the caliper piston face side of the rotor. If something is binding/seized, it could be worn unevenly enough at the problem wheel to trip the sensor but have lots of meat left on the pad you can see more easily. Inspect from above caliper and verify pads are worn evenly on both sides of the rotor.

probably the replaced the brake pads but did not reset the brake service interval reminder. Try to reset it first. If is not taking look into replacing the pad sensors and reset after.
Try this:
1. with engine running
2. press and hold odometer
3. service light will appear (yellow triangle)
4. while still pressing odometer press the BC button on the turn signal stalk
5. navigate to desired reset function such as brakes by pressing the BC button
6. to reset, press and hold BC button
7. a rotating hand of a clock will appear
8. press BC button again and a check mark in a box will appear
9. turn off/on engine to confirm that indicator light has been reset.

If it wont work, at step 6 try a double press instead of holding it.
