HPFP failure ?
here is the scenario.
Getting ready to drive to work this morning and upon starting the car it cranks fine but begins stuttering on idle like those failed HPFP youtube videos... I rev it a bit its smooth then once it drops it begins stuttering again. Im thinking its either the hpfp or a faulty injector. Will troubleshoot this with logs further tonight. some notes *scanned for codes shows 2E19 (cylinder 2- ignition??) *car was running fine yesterday good power. *noticed a longer than usual long warm crank yesterday *carbon cleaning done recently *new coils done 2 weeks ago *spark plugs done recently. Anyone experienced same symptoms? |

DME: Firing, cylinder 2 Its a different code to a misfire actually. If you shut off the car, clear the code and restart does the code come back on the same cylinder? Coils were replaced recently, make sure the coils are fully plugged in, they can look plugged in when they are not. The lock tab can actually be locked into place when the plug isn't fully in. I would swap the coil from cylinder 1 into cylinder 2 and see if it jumps. Probably not faulty coil but may as well check since its easy to do. To diagnose the injectors you would need to pull the rail and put coke bottles on each injector, then see if you have any bad spray pattern/no fuel. To detect a leaking injector you would need to leave the car overnight and see if any fuel leaks into the coke bottles. Should be able to log the high pressure fuel pump

I have something similar.
Cranks fine. But once cranked revs drop and stutters abit and is fine again. did a scan, it seems i had a p29f3 (low pressure fuel sensor), just ordered mine on ebay. about 100 bucks shipped. Do you stutter and misfire WOT 3000rpm and over? |

Get a can of liquimoly injector cleaner from advan for starters
Run bp ultimate only if you do not already. Like suggested swap coil packs see if any difference, doesn't hurt to try. Just because something is new doesn't mean its ok. Sounds like a dirty injector to me or could be faulty worst case scenario. |

Update.
Cyclinder 2 missfire code. Swapped coils and plugs with cyl 1 to see if it will follow. Car started up fine. Back to normal...... Will run some bp98 now. Thanks all! |

Hi Marty
does the Liqui Moly (or any injector cleaner) contaminate the engine oil? I remember reading that you need to change engine oil more frequently if you use the petrol additives. cheers |

Any additives will make their way into the oil that's why I suggested to use it every 5000 kms, I change my oil every 5000kms or less and use to add it with the change.
Now I run straight e85 and use a different additive as liquid moly is not recommended with high concentrations on e85 The only sure way to find out if it does contaminate your oil to an unsafe degree is to send your used oil sample away for testing. |
