New EU Emissions Standards

http://www.bmwblog.com/2015/09/26/bm...-restrictions/

So now that new EU emissions standards are in effect, and are even higher than US standards, I wonder if we will see more diesel models and options in the US.

After all, EU manufacturers wont have to put extra engineering into a vehicle to make it pass US restrictions, their cars will already be made to pass a higher restriction.

I guess the US has been a beta test for German diesel cars, well except for certain VW models...

That story is highly misleading. The writer and editor are idiots.
1) The Euro 6 actually took effect Sept 2014.
2) Euro 6 is *NOT* generally more restrictive than the USA/CA standards, especially for NOx, are essentially the same for PM, and similar for HC/CO.
3) The standards are mentioned in the "ST810 - Advanced Diesel..." pdf that has been posted here, on page 74 or so.
4) Europe and the US have proposed more restrictive standards on NOx, but they only proposed and wouldn't take effect until 2020 or so.

Oh, well, I admit that I just took the story at face value and didnt verify its facts. I guess I just figured that it's on the internet so it must be true.

Shame though, it would be nice to have some agreement between North America and the EU on diesel emissions requirements.
