3 inch downpipe fitment
Okay guys I bought a set a of Macht Schnell ceramic coated off a forum member here. There is absolutely no way for them to fit perfectly. The short pipe either hits sub frame or has to be moved and touches the other pipe at the catback. I've read the treads and spent a ridiculous amount of time trying to find the sweet spot, impossible. I have great visual and physical access ,I've tired to tweak everything. My last resort is "massage " with a hammer as another member suggested. This worries me, i dont want to damage the coating or cause a horrible sound due to a dent. I was thinking about using a rubber mallet to flatten out the place it hits the subframe. Can any one give me any tips on doing this or even if I should do this ? Thanks to all who reply
-David

Watch this video and see if provides any hints. Sometimes you just need to work at it. I am not familiar with the fitment of the Macht Schnell pipes but if they are ceramic coated any "hammer" contact will destroy the coating. Did they fit on the other guys car? Did he have any issues? Were there any obvious marks on the pipes to suggest they were hitting the subframe on his car as well? Mike |

Not sure what else you can do after that. If you clock the downpipes perfectly there should be enough room but my experience with macht schnel is null. I've installed a few VRSF DP's though. |

I used this guide to help me out with my downpipe install, which took me and a buddy a good 6 hours. The fitment has to be so perfect and the limited space makes it a mess.

Sorry about that. Have you tried contacting the manufacturer and see if they can give you any install tips?

Which exhaust bracket are you tightening? The support on the midpipe itself? I don't think that one will hold an adjustment.
Mine touched at the exhaust connection as well, basically both flanges touched. I had to loosen V-band, clock the long pipe, and pry the flanges apart then tighten the V-band. That gave me about 2mm of clearance between the flanges. |

Thanks for the advice guys. I will take it apart for the forth time later tonight. Anybody know the minimum distance everything has to be not to rub under any conditions? Ill find something to mark it off and make sure I have clearance before everything is bolted up.

I have Macht Schnell DP's. Love them. They fit like a glove on my E90. When tightening them place a screw driver between the two DP's so that they don't move closer to each other and rattle when you start driving.

Okay this isn't gonna work, what do yal think about adding some heat wrap around where the downpipes meet the catback. It would stop the clanking when going over bumps but might cause a vibration if they are touching

Whenever I do this the the face of the downpipes doesn't sit flush with the turbo and slowly adds more pressure when tightening the v bands . When I remove the screw driver the pressure bring them back together

That won't be any use because I got them of a member.
The short pipe is just to tight. No way I'm getting 1/4" even with the heat shield removed. If i try to center it more it touches on the other side. If the wrap or some other idea is out I'll have to sadly beat it with a hammer |

We've removed a set of race land down pipes that literally melted a half circle into the customers subframe because they were installed against the subframe to prevent rattling.
If they were used there's a good chance they didn't fit then either. |
