New coilovers, bad alignment and negative camber
Hey all, I recently installed kW v1s to my car and forgot to do an alignment, and ruined 2 rear tires in 2 months.
![]() I go to get an alignment today and the best they can do for camber in the rear is -2.5 ?? Attached is a pic of before and after, I still feel like I'm going to wear my rear tires out ? Any suggestions ? Thanks [IMG][/IMG]

What is your goal / intended use for this car? I can't think of any application for our street driven cars that might require so much negative camber in the rear. I suppose that that much camber might be useful if you want to "stance" the car with super-wide rims, but I dunno too much about that stuff.
You might spend some time skimming some alignment threads. Look at what others use and what they use their car for (street driving / road racing track / autox, etc). Would be a good starting point. Finally - keep asking around. IMO a proper alignment performed by someone with experience, including how to work on cars with coilovers (ask me how I know) is critical to obtaining the handling performance from our cars.

My car runs -2.5* rear camber when I set the witness marks to the track alignment settings for the toe and lower camber arms. Way more than enough, can't imagine why anyone would want more than that unless it's for looks. FWIW

Agreed. Looks like your previous settings for rear toe were off and that ate up your tires.

Holy crap. How did you 'forget' to do an alignment when the rear toe was so far off?? I'd imagine it drove like crap.

When you say they couldn't do any better are you saying they couldn't get it less negative?

Single midiocer tech most definitely will not be able to get the alignment spot on. The tech will set the camber and work on the toe which will alter the camber and vise versa. Same with side to side. Tech will set let say right side first and move to the left which will affect the right side. Tech really needs to know what they are doing and have both experience and talent. That is why when I do alignments, and I do on average one per month for customers vehicles at a Firestone I request two techs which I work with on the alignment rack. They work as I look at the screen with the numbers. When I see the numbers that I like/want/need I tell them to fasten the eccentric bolts. I do this so I will not have returning customers with complains since we outsource the alignment.
