F10 530d
Has anyone moved from a e9x to the f10?
Fancy a change from my e92 330d. F30 seem a little out of my range. Been browsing the 530d and 535d Upto around 20k. What people's feelings on them? My only concern is for a 28 year old, it's bit of grown up car. (Or have I reached middle age) |

Currently driving a 520d M sport with loads of toys. It's a work car for the next few weeks. I like it but a 530d is a much better option. It's a natural move from a 3 series, bigger more comfortable and a nice place to be. It's not as focused to drive like the 3 series but a great cruiser and you can still have fun.

If my budget would stretch I would be looking for the same.
They have done a great job on the interior looks. Yes it's a bit more grown up but it doesn't matter if the itch for the 3 series is down with.

Driven a few now got to say the F10's an nice place to be, being very comfortable surprisingly agile the engine/gearbox combo's works extremely well IMO and its pleasingly grown up an inoffensive to look at as well. Compared with the current generation 3 as pmmcbl's stated they aren't as agile but they are an ice steer and I suspect on the used market may offer on the surface better VFM I'd certainly be happy owning one

I've got an E92 320d M Sport and just ordered my other half an F11 520d M Sport for the family car. We wanted something bigger with all the gadgets and comfort. I'm 32 now and want different things from my daily car so it fits the bill perfect.

I've gone from an e90 320d (N47) M Sport plus to an F10 520d (B47) M Sport and agree with everything above and have absolutely no regrets over the change; it's quiet, comfortable and a great place to be.
The B47 engine coupled with the auto box is superb and remarkably quick for such a big car, especially so when flicked into sport mode, but don't pay extra for flappy paddles, they're novel but a complete waste of time. Clearly it's never going to be as nimble as a 3 series, but it's still excellent with high levels of grip, and only let down by the electric power steering which makes it feel a little numb. One thing I would recommend is get a car with cameras (or fit after market), it's a big car and kerbs around car parks etc disappear from view way before you're anywhere near them, I have a rear camera which is invaluable and I've bought one for the front which I intend to fit when I get the time. |

I must be getting old. Been driving this 520d for a little while I really like the cream leather interior and the older mans design features!
Found the perfect 530d for sale with nearly every option available, but not sure if I can justify 20k. |

Can anyone explain, why the second hand F1x cars are cheaper than similar spec F3x? I.e. 2012 190kw 530d vs. 330d with similar spec. and mileage and the F1x is usually ~15-20% cheaper.

That's what I've found, is just the 3 series is more popular?

Personally I prefer the looks of the 3 series however I haven't been inside either of them. I'd be interested to hear if anyone has driven both and what the main differences are other than the obvious size difference. |

Been to bmw to compare the two, size wise there not a massive difference. 5 series is a little nicer inside.
I've been reading up on the two and I'm not sure wether to wait till the new year and see if the f31 335d comes down in price a little. My main concern is depreciation, 30k on a 335d, 20k miles a year. Say keep it 3 years. What's it going to be worth? 15k? |

I've had an f10 523i and now have an f11 525d after various 325i's. I have to say the interior is a great place to be, the suspension pretty good and indeed the steering a bit dead, but the interior of this and the older e90 series is miles ahead of the f30 which just feels cheap in comparison. Go for it you'll love it.
