335is temperature issue

So I'm trouble shooting an issue on my 335is and coming up empty handed. My temperature gauge (outside temperature) is reading about 40 degrees outside. Consequently, my oil temperature gauge is reading about 30-40 degrees below normal operating temperature. I'm under warranty still and can take it in for service, just wanted to trouble shoot ahead of time. Thanks for any insight.

Most likely a bad sensor, but odd that two would go out.

Thanks, Mike. I thought the outside temperature had some bearing on the cars performance or operation. Is that not the case?

You are thinking of the IAT (intake air temperature sensor)

obviously the iat affects the performance and output, i just thought i read somewhere 4 or 5 years ago that the outside temp has some bearing on those, as well

What is your oil temp running? Do you have a T-stat delete?

The physical ambient temp does affect performance but the ambient temp sensor has no direct relation to your vehicle adding or pulling power.

AIT is measured by TMAP, which is connected to the charge pipe.

my oil temp is running right around 195-200 degrees when fully warmed up. it had been running tick under 250 degrees before my outside temp started showing a wrong temp

Oil temp is tied pretty closely to coolant temp when fully warmed up, unless pushed hard. This is due to the factory heat exchanger.

Below 32C ambient, the DME targets 104C or 108C coolant temperature depending on driving conditions. Between 32C and 37C ambient, it targets 95C. Above 37C ambient, it targets 90C.

The OP is correct.
