I'd imagine those who actually work in SV all take scooters to work and wouldn't own a BMW.

In some ways NYC is the new SV. We have more IT / dev startups in one month than SV has in a year. Not saying they are all successful, but even the likes of google and face book are making a huge presence in NYC and have second HQs here.

Not even close. Austin and other places in the country trump NYC for startups - in fact there's a stronger imprint overseas. Stateside outside of SF/SV it's SoCal - specifically "Silicon Beach"...

texas... can you pull some statistical data please?

Silicon beach...wtf is that a new Cali term to stay relevant?

http://www.mikebloomberg.com/news/te...g-262000-jobs/

"Moreover, the city itself significantly out-performed the rest of the New York metro – with a percentage increase that was four times that of the New York suburbs over the 2007 to 2012 time period. Brooklyn, too, saw impressive tech/information job growth as its rate of expansion outpaced every other large county in the country except San Francisco; this includes tech centers such as Austin, TX; Cambridge, MA; Seattle, WA, and North Carolina’s Research Triangle."

So San Fran we are coming for you. And know your info and industry before you go posting bullshit.

That's about how significant one article you post and regurgitate is... You believe everything you read? Just curious...

The simple fact that you don't know Playa Vista and your ignorant comment about Los Angeles needing to stay relevant (LOL) and how you're gunning for SF, tell me all I need to know... Before you spew on and on about how great the city of NY is - born and raised go back many times a year... But at least I don't post an article, one simple article and try to instill it as factual to the masses... Relax, it will be okay... No need to get all hostile on a forum, IT guy...

I thought west coast people where more chill. And yea LA where the fuck is that even... oh that's right in between Pairs Hilton's twat lol

Just saying that NYC TECH sector has grown at a much faster pace than other cities. A lot has to do with the benefits the local government provides to companies in affect luring them in.

Sincerely

IT Guy...

I still don't see any questions. OP, if you're thinking about moving here, don't. It's congested as fuck as it is.

No. The 22-35 year olds who live in SF for the novelty take busses to work since most don't have cars. Once they realize how much of a complete shithole SF is, they move south and buy a Tesla.

This. Most people I know are "all about SF!!" I don't see the draw. It is insanely congested, especially the damn Financial District (FiDi). Takes an hour to go 1 mile during rush hour. Housing is expensive as shit. A lot of it is dirty and there are homeless everywhere. I would work there but not live there. Friend pays $5k for a 2 bedroom apartment near SoMa. It's ridiculous.

40 year old coworkers are in town from our SF offices, talking about their outrageous rent for tiny apartments. Meanwhile I'm in my 20s with a brand new 2800sqft house in one of the wealthiest cities in the country.

The homeless in SF is enough reason not ever go downtown.

Thank you for everyone that responded to my PMs. Helped to answer all questions that I had. Very excited to be starting my career in the tech industry. It is a blessing to be offered a job in the field that I want (graduated in May). Took many interviews and rejections but I was determined to not give up. Going to be placing all car plans on hold, and going to keep my 06 Honda Accord (bought it at 54k miles now at 131k).

Most people my age as soon as they get a salary go out to lease / buy a 50k+ car. It would be idiotic to purchase a high end vehicle at my age, instead I will be re-investing in my education (hoping to start my MBA while in Cali), and pay off my loans. As much as it kills me not to have a m3, s4, etc like most of my friends do, I work hard for my money and it would a shame to waste it on a car at this point in my life. If anyone in the tech industry wants to network please send me a PM. Would love to meet fellow car enthusiasts in the Bay Area.

Cheers
