HID Fogs
Anyone know where I can get an HID fog kitwith the same output as stock hid bulbs for an e92 with an Mtech rep bumper? It has a 9006 connecter. I tried searching but everything I found was pretty outdated

Have you thought of going high power LED using OEM fog lights?
These are photos of mine, adds a lot more light to the standard HIDs and also work well as DRLs. In terms of lumens the LEDs are 3 x brighter than the stock 55W halogen bulb (more than HID) but due to the lack of a projection system the projected light is only slightly more than the halogen. |

9006 is the same as HB4.
You can search for that. Plenty of kits availble, but think long and hard before going LED/HID. The kit you need must be be CANBUS capable OR you need to wire in a resistor to fool the FML that you still have a 55w halogen bulb in there. Or your going to be riding around with the "bulb out" showing. Iīve tried out afew diffrent LED H11 (Same as H8 and H9) in LED on my motorcycle and none have come close to my H11 Osram Nightbreaker halogen bulbs. Dont be fooled by massive wattage or lumen claims. They often refer to the maximum theoretical lumens that the led chip can put out, but manufacturers often "forget" to tell you that they only power the chip to 45-55% AND that actual lumens are along way away from theoritical ones. Sort of like claiming peak wattage from a stereo amplifier when RMS is what you can actually use. So a LED bulb claiming 80W and 4800 lumens will probably in real life be around 20W and 1000 lumens. Half that of a good halogen bulb. Another thing to consider is that LED and HID bulbs put the light-arc out of position, so your fogs might light up the road abit further, but your also riding around with fogs that are blinding everyone else. That will get you stopped and ticketed here in Sweden FAST! If you want a nice white light from your fogs, chuck some mtec 4750K cosmos Blue 9006/hb4 bulbs in there and call it a day. itll match your stock xenons just fine in the looks department. 2c

If your going HID or LED, Id go with Jeffīs stuff. at TopGearSolutions. Sure, you can find stuff cheaper on ebay, but you loose warranty and quality control.
The stuff Iīve tried out in LED or HID have always been from local suppliers here in Sweden. No doubt some of the stuff was made in China, but Iīm currently running some HID 70w Speed start xenon ballasts together with Speed start 55w bulbs in my Hella ff200r drivinglights mounted in the kidneys and they are locally sourced. I do know several friends who have bought from this seller and the quality has always been very good. http://stores.ebay.com/SunyeeTrading?_rdc=1

Yea you can definitely find options cheaper but it's usually not an apples to apples comparison. Most are of inferior quality and / or will likely error out. I've seen countless attempts by people to buy cheap HID kits and mate them with error cancelers to only be disappointed. This platform is very picky when it comes to what it's looking for so as not to error out. We had to test nearly a dozen HID Ballasts before we found one compatible for this platform. As far as LED. If there is a market for it I can do some testing on local cars, including my own. However, I prefer the output and life expectancy of HID's personally. If you are guys are genuinely interested on error free LED plug and play options, let me know and i'll start testing. I actually think the HPB 160W H8 Angel eyes we sell might actually work. I just haven't tested to confirm if they would perform error free but I'm fairly confident they would. There are also some other H8 designs that might be better suited for fog light applications to increase output. My GF has high powered LED in her G37 from HPB and they do run strong for nearly 3 years. Not as much output as HID but definitely as bright or touch brighter then stock with a nice crisp white look. |

Please try it out! My reluctance to go HID/LED in fogs comes back to errors and light output. Most LED solutions dont distribute the light correctly for any sort of reflector. Iīve tried the ones in the pic that are locally sourced from humanhabit.se and they didnt work at all in the lowbeam on my bike that usually takes H11 (same as H8 and H9). Lowbeam was all over the place even if the filament on the bulb and ledīs where identically placed on the axis. I did try them in the highbeam on the bike and they seemed to work better there, giving a wider, but shorter throw. Probably form a lower lumen output combined with a the ledīs being wider then the halogen filament. They used COB Epistar LEDīs as I recall and where speced for 24W and 2400lumen per bulb.

I'll talk with HPB on the LED options for fog lights and see which ones would truly offer output on the road as I know they have a few in their arsenal specifically designed for Low Beam / High Beam applications so they may be suitable for Fog Light applications too. Most options that do fit look nice when staring at them but output may not actually be that great. It's been one of those things we've been meaning to test thoroughly as we didn't want to push a product that people would be disappointed in with the same concerns you've had in regard to actual output. |

I've seen several people try hids in reflectors and it usually ends up blinding on lowbeam atleast. Fogs are about the same. But I've also seen alot of hid conversions on highbeam that add alot of usable light. I'm getting a company car next month and it's going to be a Volvo XC70 and I'm already planning on converting the oem highbeam with 2x 70w speed start hids and 6000K 55w speed start bulbs aswell as a Visionx XPR 24" led lightbar to augment the highbeam. I do lots of late night rural driving on the job. I'm even considering a roofmounted led lightbar aswell.. |

I had a picture somewhere on my comp, I"ll take another. It really depends on the housing but I was surprised myself to find a reasonable cut off line where it didn't glare upward. |
