Tyre profile questions.

Hi All,

Couple of questions about tyre profiles... I have an E92 330i currently running on the original 17"s and have bought a set of second hand Ispiri 19''s with virtually new Michelin Pilot Alpin. It was only when I got them home that I realised there was a slight mismatch in the relative profiles. The fronts are 235/35 and the rears 265/35 which makes the rears about 0.8" larger in diameter and 2.6" in circumference.

Q1 - Is this a significant enough difference that could give problems other than throwing the speedo out a bit?

Q2 - To redress the balance, would I be better off changing the fronts to give me 245/35 and 265/35 (as I believe is OEM for the M3) or changing the rears to end up with 235/35 and 265/30?

No you are fine, there is nothing wrong with having wider tires in front or rear, it wont affect anything at all. Even if you have different side wall profiles it would be fine. I ran 235/35/19 and 285/30/19 on my last set.

Yes you can run them but the rear is the M3 sizing while the front is non-M.

I'd personally though get the rears back to OE non-M to match the fronts.

the issue isn't that it's staggered... it's that the profiles on the back and front are both 35 (when usually they're 30 and 35 respectively)...

but OP you should be fine, if you're lowered then you may run into rubbing issues... you'll get a slight nose down look but i like that, some people don't...

245 may be a little large for the front but you shouldn't need to change it up anyways...

speedo will be fine, it may not be 3% off any more but you'll have to check it with GPS...

sidenote: the 4WD E9Xs must have the exact same diametre on all the tyres others it messes up the transmission...

That's what I was leaning towards, 235/35 and 265/30 seems to be the more "classic" combination.

Exactly! The point was not about the staggered widths. If it ever stops raining here I'll stick them on and then proceed to wear out the rears as fast as possible

You don't have to wear out the rear as fast as possible, you will be fine like I said. I find it hillarious when BMW folk freak out over little stuff like this, like the 00.00% extra speed you will get would cause your imminent death. you can run any sizes you want, you wont notice the difference in speed or handling, unless you do some extremely stupid sizes. and you wont have issues since with rubbing you are probably at stock ride height.
