335XI goes 11.277 @ 125 on Stock VTT replacement Turbos
I will start this by saying, I am very new to the BMW scene, I bought this car in early September, but have been drag racing for 10+ years. I read a lot, and barely ever post. Ive built a couple 9 second lsx cars and I decided to build something "different" so I decided to start my first "import" venture.
So after a long 2 weeks of wrenching on my car, I finally got it all together Wednesday night and only had thurs night to retune and I decided to trailer the car 4 hours down to Atco dragway in new jersey, I am from Mass. I was very happy with my results! ill post the time slips below, working on getting the video from my buddy. Previous to Yesterday my best was an 11.84 @ 118 so I put myself in some debt to try to get the quickest awd 335, over the past 2 weeks I had almost the entire car apart, I will put a (*) next to what I changed since I started with a simple turbo rebuild, which ended up with an over torque and a snapped turbine, so I decided to reach out to Tony @ Vargas, and man he hooked me up! within 5-7 days of contacting him I had in my possession 2 brand new OEM CHRA's and a set of his inlets. All I can say is that the customer support I received from him was absolutely unbelievable. Everytime I sent him an email I received a response within 5-10 MINUTES. like clockwork, and I can be a HUGE PITA as I ask a lot of questions, and I basically try to do everything myself. I do believe this is the quickest 335xi? and it was also done one stock turbos! Mods List: VTT Inlets* VTT Oem CHRA's* JB4 BMS 1gal Meth (100%) BMS DCI n20 map VRSF dp VRSF 7" FMIC* Fuel it stage 1 lpfp running e55 MHD Custom base Flash by Johnny B Tuning Stock exhaust with gutted rear cats TDR Prorace 1.2 17" wheels with SNOW tires* Yesterday I made quite a few passes trying to dial the car in as its never been on a dyno, and she got faster every pass. 11.518@122, 11.43@123.99, 11.33@124.7, 11.31@124.99, 11.277@125.04, then dropped the stock exhaust and went an 11.30@125.56 spinning all of 2nd gear. The main problem I was running into, was the track prep went from good to horrible around 2pm and my last 2 passes it spun, the 2nd to last pass it spun so hard it auto shifted 2nd gear before even moving, and then the last pass it hooked 1st had a 1.67 60' and then annhialated the tires in 2nd gear, I had to pedal it, short shift 3rd and still pulled off a 11.30 A 125.56 I KNOW the car has more in it, as I really only had 4-5 runs in before I put it on the trailer and went to New Jersey. If I had to guess the weight was somewhere around 3700-3750 +/- 50, I didn't have time to drain fuel and ran it with 3/4 of a tank all day. Overall I was very happy, and have to thank Tony @vargasturbo for all of his help, and to Johnny B (JBoyorak) for his killer tune! I would expect to see this car in the 10's very soon. On this very setup, I already know where I can lose another 150lbs and how I can get the 60' to low 1.6 high 1.5x UPDATE 12/6/15 Hey guys, update to my quest for 10's I wasn't happy with my atco trip which landed me an 11.27 and I knew the car had a lot more left in it, so I decided to make a 305 mile trip to Cecil County Dragway in Rising Sun, MD it was the closest track still open for yesterday December 5th. This track is definitely no atco, and not ideal for trying to set records. For starters the track is 341 ft above sea level to begin with, and idk what happened but there were people coming out of the woodwork from about 6-7 different states at the least, and I would say there was at least 300+ cars there actually racing. I decided I needed to do some major weight reduction this week, so that was my main goal. I fabbed up some seat brackets for a Kirkey Aluminum seat I had laying around in my garage, which is about 40lbs lighter if I had to guess, as well as a few other things I removed which are as follows: Wiper motor + arms, and the complete cowl, amp in trunk, 2 under seat subs, all the rear seat hooks and rear seat belt buckles, and some of the trunk paneling. I had the stock exhaust on for my first couple passes of the day, which landed me an 11.231 @ 127.11 and I would say this was @ about 3600-3650 raceweight. I then decided, hey I drove all the way to MD I might as well pull the exhaust off. So my 2 buddies and I did that, while having all of the locals laughing at me saying that's useless to pull off. I shrugged it off, and went back up for the first pass with exhaust off, the first pass out, I tried to launch at 6-7 psi and I didn't even move. all 4 just spun so I limped it down the track and went right back into staging. A little upset at that first outcome, and the 2 oil downs got me to thinking. I needed more traction, so I decided that it would be helpful to let some air out of the front tires. I had all 4 @ 38psi, and I was thinking... supposedly these awd cars switch to rwd somewhere around 80+ mph so I said eff it, lets lower just the fronts to 30psi, so that is what I did. Now someone may think this doesn't make a big difference, but the way I stage, so shallow I figured it would kill 2 birds with one stone, by lowering the front psi I gain rollout which gives me more of a running start per say as well as added traction off the line, and if these cars really do switch to rwd it shouldn't effect my mph. so I pull up to the line, actually launched slightly easier (4.6 psi) and off she went. I knew the car was on a very good pass because I crossed the line in 5th at 5400 which never happens, usually I am right around 5200, got my timeslip, and BOOM 11.038 @ 129.37. I was ecstatic. I went back up to make 2 more passes, the first one I launched even harder with the adjusted tire pressure and it rocketed to a 1.63 60' and a 4.70 330 and then popped right into neutral, with all dsc lights and abs on lol, so I pulled to the side of the track made sure I wasn't leaking then pulled off the track. thoroughly aggravated I cleared the codes went back into staging, and then pure user error set in. I forgot to put the jb4 back on map 6.... idiot. and that was right as track was closing haha but hey I went 12.6 @ 112 on stock boost with a 1.80 60' lol... I actually laughed as I pulled it onto the trailer. Oh well I said, there is always next year. I really wanted the 10.99 and with the 129 mph it will be easily achievable. I think if it wasn't so busy there yesterday and had more time to play with targets I am 100% confident this car would have went low 10.8x if not 10.7x @ around 131. my 1-2 shift is haunting me and apparently my 2-3 now as well. And as for the density altitude, it was -1200 ft, but that isn't the only thing us guys running so much alcohol have to worry about. it is the water grains which was pretty optimal at 27.5 +- 1 ethanol and methanol are strongly influenced by the water grains, from my personal experience. My buddies are also not the brightest, I asked one to take a video so he decided to take a snap chat video. he gets most of the pass, but I was pretty aggravated that he used snapchat... Below will be some pictures and a video. I was very happy with the outcome. The log is right here below: Usually I do not post logs, but here it is. My tuning was super conservative as well, mainly because the hpfp and lpfp in the lower gears. I need to give a huge thank you to a few people as well, at the top of this list is @Mrpikolo (JBoyorak) for putting up with my relentless questions, as well as the killer tune in the car, without him this car would still be running high 11's. @Tony@VargasTurboTech for these awesome CHRA's, Inlets, And again putting up with my endless questions and just telling me straight up what needs to be done @Terry@BMS for answering any questions I had, and trying to help me through my 2nd gear boost target issues. @Tiago@VRSF for shipping everything out as soon as I needed it Last edited by LsWhat; 12-06-2015 at 03:37 PM.. |

sub $1000 turbos! I actually only bought the center housing with rotating assembly. and used my own stock housings that I just ran through a parts cleaner! I still have the typical stock turbine limiting me to around 500whp, but I was able to lower my wgdc early In the rpm range by 10-15% over my stock center housings, which had 2 blown turbine seals, as well as one compressor seal.

it all depends on what you want to do with your car! I still drive this car about 1000 miles a week, without making trips to the track, 106k miles on it. but I will upgrade once it starts snowing, but I personally think that I will wait for the cast manifold option
but stage 1s should definitely do the trick. properly tuned and fueled, and I would say easily 550whp |

I have never been to a dyno, and only tune based on virtual dyno. if I had to guess, somewhere around 500whp. its not a 100% known fact but just a guess. find a hp calculator online and put in 125mph @ 3700 and itll tell you a lot more then that lol

I know.. I trap 116 right now and thats not even launching the car... Realistically id say it has 118mph potential which mph is the only stat i get excited for nowadays and 1/4 time a mere consolation... Cant really gauge power as im new to the platform, i havent dyno yet but maybe i will after vsrf inlet install... Hoping to be in the upper 4's on stock turbos.. I always thought vtt stg1 was the OEM replacements
