New exhaust sound... Nice or Rice??? **New Video**

not sure what to think of the new sounds just yet. I had 2 Flowmaster Super 40 3" in/out installed. Car also has catless DPs, JB4 and the usual bolt-ons.

I think I like it but it has a tinny rattle to it. Does this sound Ricey to you? All comments welcome! The ricey rattle is more pronounced in this recording than it is to my ear standing outside. Guessing it is due to the mic (sm57) placement being very close to the tips.

Comments? Rants? Flames?

Updated Video.
There are some interior, exterior and drive by clips in this one.

Personally, very ricey to me.

I've noticed you're fairly local though, perhaps you'll like mine:

Flowmaster is just very redneck to me. I remember having them on several Chevrolets back in high school. They sound decent on V8s but not much else. They also perform worse due to their V shaped plates inside (dubbed delta flow or some bullshit). Straight through designs tend to sound better and flow better. Have you thought about Magnaflow?

I like it. But...it sounds like from the inside that the exhaust may be rattling against heat shield or something?? That initial noise doesn't sound right at all. I like the sound from the outside... Unique.

I think it sounds great from the outside! We know it's pretty hard for n54's to sound good.

The interior rattle is what annoys me most!!!

I think it sounds mean as hell outside and pretty damn great inside once over 2500Rpm.
This resonance at anything under 2500 is rattling the shit out ofe lol! I'm on a mission to find it..

Sounds really nice, but I don't think you can really compare the N54 and N55 exhaust notes as the N55 seems like it is a better sounding motor in general.

Kind of too mid-rangey sounding overall for me, and there is serious rice at 5000 RPM (0:26 of video) in I believe that's first gear.

Our engines just aren't impressive sounding. This would be my last area of focus. No matter how good you get it the first V8 anything that drives by trumps it 20x over. Better off focusing on intake/turbo sounds.

Thank you.

I've been fortunate enough to own both an n54 and n55 powered e92. My n54 e92 was a 2010 model in TiAg and had the same exact exhaust setup as I do now on my n55. The sound is very comparable, but I must admit that my n55 is a tad louder, due to the lack of an X-Pipe, and more 'crisp' due to the spooling of a single turbo.

All in all though, the sound is very similar for both and in my opinion more than worth it!

Yeah, that does not sound right. It's rasps and rattles inside but outside it a very boomy mid range sound. I want to say rice but it's a very odd mixture of stuff. Definitely not a good match for BMW engines.

Exactly what I love about my exhaust setup. It's respectably loud and allows for zero rasp. It's comparable to a louder yet more refined (as in crisp) Performance Exhaust.

I'll see if I can do anything to mitigate the rattling sounds this weekend. I may end up with the stock system back in if I get get a cleaner sound. Hoping to find some component(s) resonating that I can dampen with dynamat or similar...

Exhaust sound

From the outside it sounds very good. Reminded me of watching some of the GT cars at the Long Beach Gran Prix. But the rattle needs to be cleaned up. Someone above said it sounds like a Honda, sorry it does not sound like any Honda ever made. Very unique sound in my opinion. This coming from someone who lives in SoCal where there are horrible sounding ricers everywhere (More Riced Hondas in SoCal than anywhere on earth). I also tend to not like loud exhausts as evidenced by the fact that my exhaust mods are just catless dps and and a flap delete. Just fix the rattle.
