Small rant
First off, I like to look after my car because for me it was the most expensive thing I've ever bought. I never go to car washes and instead wash and wax only by hand. I used to wash weekly, but more recently it's more like monthly due to things getting in the way.
Anyway, washed last weekend, this weekend it's looking very dirty, and I go outside today and a neighbour has written "save water" on my bonnet/hood in the dirt! I find it so annoying. I presume they mean I'm wasting water washing my car. But instead of talking to me, they do it anonymously, and scratch dirt into my car in the process. Rant over. Needless to say, twice weekly washes to start now |

All the more reason to walk over and use their hose instead of yours next time you wash the car

OP I'd be really pissed if I were in your shoes. However, to make everyone happy, have you considered using rinseless wash products such as Optimum No Rinse or Garry Dean's Detail Juice? My preference would of course be using a hose, but I've tried rinseless washes and they ain't bad either. They did take me longer though, perhaps it's because I'm new to it...

I'd be furious!
Lately (especially due to the cold) I've been going to the coin-op and pressure washing. I'll then drive it home and finish with ONR. I love ONR but I still think a good pre-rinse is worth it.

Fvck that. Water used to wash a car is a damn drop in the bucket when it comes to people's water usage.

About the rinse less washes, I may look at it in future, but definitely not because of this incident. Did a good wash today so no way to write on my car for now |

Tell them you save the water you need to wash your cars by only taking a shower once a month.
The neighbors stare when I wash mine, or drive by slowly. I don't think I've ever seen any of them wash their cars in the 4 years I've lived there. But none have ever given me trouble for it. |

Why not do the same thing to their car but criticize how dirty it is by scratching the comment in their paint work with a key....only joking, don't do that

Their logic is weird on this one. They wrote on your car using dirt just like anyone else writes on cars that are dirty, hence not being washed all THAT often. They expect you to leave their stupid message on your car while you drive it everywhere, a message that called you out? Okay.
You should definitely start watering your driveway and sidewalk and make them watch. |

But presumably you are correct, they might have higher water bill than you, unless they flush every other time they use the toilet and shower monthly |

Not to be a wise-a$$ or anything but here in Upstate NY we only pay for water twice a year. Could take an hour shower and wash the cars everyday of the week if we wanted to and still pay the same amount.

I'm from England where most houses are a fixed rate too (no water meter). Here in Miami I'm on a meter but don't mind spending on water to properly care for my car.

Tbh unless you live in some fascist, communistic state who bloody cares where you are!? your neighbours should mind their own Damn business In England we'd respond with a harshly worded letter and a bloody strong cup of tea - being careful to only use the least amount of water of course |

I get ass raped for water here. it's about $200 a month. $150 a month is basically minimum even if you used no water at all. I sometimes write "extortion" and "highway robbery" on the cheques just to make me feel better..

Oh I know. Used to live in NYC for 16 years. Be lucky to even spend 5 mins in the shower without my parents yelling..
