A Sad Day for SirDaft1's 335i...
While driving with my wife and our 3 week old son last night, some guy in an SUV railed the back of my car at 40ish~ mph. We were at a dead stop in bumper to bumper traffic on I-290 coming out of Chicago. I am still confused on why or how this guy was going so fast as no one else was going more than 5mph. All I know is that it was too late to do anything by the time I saw him in my rear view mirror. Police came and wrote up the report and the other driver is completely at fault.
We wound up going into the hospital- most importantly for our little dude and he checked out alright. They wound up doing some CAT scans and X-rays on me and my wife since both of our necks and mid backs were sore. Fortunately everything came back ok, but we're both feeling a bit sore today. Now it's on to the car. No airbags went off but the extent of the damage was a bit more than I initially thought. Bumper, trunk, pass quarter panel, etc. My fingers are crossed that it's not a total loss. If so, I will be extremely bummed after all of the hard work, sweat and money that has gone into making this what it has become today. Anthony and the good dudes over at A&L are writing up an estimate as I type. I had already been gathering parts to complete an LCI M-Sport/CSL rear conversion. Best case scenario is that the car is repairable and we can complete that conversion. Worst case scenario: She's totaled and I'll have to strip all of my mods, swap back to stock parts and find another car. I will be super super upset if we have to go that direction. Should know more in the next few days. #fingerscrossed Last edited by sirdaft1; 12-16-2015 at 12:43 AM.. Reason: Added high res photos |

And if anyone has an E90 LCI M-Sport w/ lower miles that's on the market, shoot me a PM. Open to stock, FBO, as well as upgraded turbos. |

Holy crap buddy. I am glad everything is okay with the family. I am near Anthony and will offer you any help if you need me to drive over or something. You sold my twin the transmission just to let you know who I am .

Important thing is the cars safety features worked.
But I'd bet that's a write off, boot floor will be very bent I imagine, along with both quarters damaged, if your insurance works similar to the UK, it will be an uneconomical repair. Still, that's what insurance is for. |

Cars are just metal, plastic and rubber....fuck it who cares? Most important thing is your sons okay and you and your wife are fine. Don't sweat the car, there are tons of 335s all over I'm sure you'll find a new one if totaled
If I was rear ended and my kid/wife were in the car, I'd be fucking somebody up. Jail or not, sued or not, somebody would be getting chin checked |

That sucks... at least everyone was ok.
It looks like you ended up getting the tailights I have after a few PM's back and forth a few months ago. Did you end up liking them? |

I'm very sorry to hear that this happened to you, but I'm relieved to see that, most importantly, your son, wife, and yourself are well.
As you might remember, I was in a very similar predicament six months ago and I remember it like it was yesterday. It's an arduous and infuriating process, but here's my advice to you: Even in a case as point-blank obvious as this as to whose at fault, Lawyer up. Let your Lawyer deal with the hassles of talking to Insurance. Hopefully you won't have to deal with the scumbag trying to lie, but either way that would only slightly lengthen the process. You'll want to Lawyer up, regardless, because you will undoubtedly be in some pain and I'm sure you don't want to pay for the Hospital bills that were no doubt incurred. For me, when I went into Urgent Care, the bill was around $1,000 for just an EKG, X-Rays, etc. and I'm just one person! As for your car, I was in the same boat--I didn't want to have it totaled whatsoever. It my was first vehicle and I felt as if it was "taken away from me", but after it's all said and done, I now view it this way: It did its job--protecting both you and your family from severe harm. With that said, try getting back in touch with your dealer and see what they can do for you? In my case, that's exactly what I did and I essentially ended up with my 'realistic' dream car. My dealer found me exactly what I wanted with all the options and color-way that I desired. Sometimes it takes getting knocked down to your lowest in order to seize the best fruits of your labor. Cheer up buddy, everything happens for a reason--even if you may not readily understand that reason at the time. At least that's how I try to look at everything that happens in my life, both the good and not so good. Feel free to PM me if you have any particular questions or a little confused on the process of everything. |

And if they decide to total the car, the toughest part will be the loss of all of that time, money and effort that went into making this car exactly the way I made it over the years- and it being taken away for no fault of my own . And then having to pay the labor/take my own time to return the car to stock so I don't lose the thousands and thousands of dollars of FBO+ modifications I had installed (and then reinstall on a new 335??). I think that if this car was relatively stock, it wouldn't be nearly as difficult since it would be so easily replaceable. It's all the love that's gone into her, like many of us car nuts show to our e9x's that would make it so tough to lose. Of course it all hinges on the outcome. Based on A&L's estimate, the insurance rep I spoke with today made it sound like it will be repaired. But until they send out their own claims adjuster, nothing is official. If it is repaired, I'm sure that it would have a negative impact on the resale value, but as mentioned in my build thread - I think that I would rather turn this into a dedicated track car before selling. I just don't know where else you can get so much bang for your buck when it comes to power, style and tuning potential as you get in an N54 E9x. #endrant |

I'm sorry to hear about this and like others, am glad you and your family are okay. I was up there this past weekend and couldn't believe how poorly people were driving. I know it's Chicago and most of the time they're idiots, but the level of idiocy was exceptionally bad this past weekend.
Good luck getting your car back and hopefully, it's not a loss. |

Same shit happened to me too. Fortunately my car was not totaled but didn't have the time to wait for the csl truck so I had to do the add on spoiler. And had the license plate holes shaved and the lip added. I Say it was a blessing in disguise
And I did the muffler delete when it was in the shop. Just haven't gone back to have the new duel tip welded on. |

Yea there was pressure dimples on my driver side quarter and me and the body shop had to fight to get if fixed. It's funny watching an insurance agent argue with a body shop when he's never done body work before.
And no inner trunk damage. It was a suv that hit me they said if it was a car my car would have been totaled from being hit to low |
