330d Dpf problems
Hi guys currently having problems with dpf warning on idrive. Was only heating up to 50 degrees so have changed both my thermostats . Car is now running at 80-90 but still won't regen due to the warning coming on before the engine is up to temperature . any hints or tips for a regen ? ps not getting the dpf taken out

Be careful about just doing a forced re gen. The issue you have can be aggravated somewhat is by doing this as you are putting the car through some extra stresses and strains to solve an all to common issue.
To give you some idea right now I'm looking at a 530D 2007 model 87k on the clock and this has a DPF issue the values in terms of mbars are way too high over double the permitted values at 2000 rpm(we haven't tested to 4000rpm but suspect over 3 times the permitted limit would easily be seen. Thing is if you don't know what the sate of play is with your DPF then forcing a re gen could prove an issue. Before we attempt to do a re gen on any BMW diesel we ask questions such as does the car have swirl flaps in situ. If the answers yes(which the majority will have)then until action is taken to remove this problem(replace the swirl flaps with blanks) we would rather without hesitation be reluctant to carry out a re gen. In the event one of these swirl flaps were to let go the earlier cars being the older design are very prone to this taking place(even the later ones which are plastic I've seen dislodged and broken) then potentially you could have an irreversible issue on your hands. Before just getting someone to do a forced re gen get the values checked if you have swirl flaps in situ best advise I can give you is get them removed. I know this won't solve the DPF issue that's cut and dried(re what may need doing) but this will help you before you go down the re gen type route Last edited by old grey steve; 12-18-2015 at 04:29 PM.. |

The ECU refuses to regen if soot loading is too high. This is because if the soot loading is excessive, the filter can go into thermal runaway when it lights off.
The official line when it gets to this point is to replace the DPF. Some people have managed to get it to regenerate by continually resetting the fault codes while driving along. |
