E9X LED Reverse Light Comparison Upgrade

After a reasonably successful carbon splitter group buy:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1146314

I thought I'd share my LED reverse light comparison test and see who is interested in a group buy for LED reverse lights as I am getting more for our other car, see:
http://www.ozaudi.com/forums/car-par...group-buy.html

Plug and Play - No canbus errors.

Tested for 3 hours straight without failure. Note these aren't cheap ebay ones but use genuine CREE XB-D extra bright LEDs

Much easier to see where you are reversing and looks great in white.

Can also be used to replace park and stop lights though I don't see a big advantage for these unless they are blowing all the time. Can show a photo comparison if anyone is interested.

Here is all the reverse LED lights I tested:

http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i1...w.jpg~original
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i1...n.jpg~original

Of course the winner was the CREE XB-D second on the left (Tested for 3 hrs without fault)

T20 W16W WEDGE type for E92/93:
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i1...T.jpg~original

And example of lumens measurement using Luminous Flux Meter
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i1...e.jpg~original

The results approximately 3.5 x brighter than stock 1390lm vs 390lm. Photos don't really do it justice.

I've been wanting stronger reverse lighting for a while, I'm keen.

Great I think we are looking at about $44 per set + shipping which I will split between the group.

PM me your contact details when you can & whether you need the T20/W16W wedge type or BA15s. Or send me your model details & I can check for you.

Cheers

Don

Careful guys, our reverse lights need the full unit replaced - it's quite different.

I have the LUX set from when they first released them, and still going strong with no issues. These will give you an indication on what they look like (not a simple wedge bulb replacement)

Also, bimmian sell a set from Weis-something that use Cree LEDs also, so check those out also.

Why do you say that?? As you can see my 335i works fine

I have a spare sample bulb if anyone wants to come by and test it in their E92 or other car.

This upgrade will also be a lot brighter and project more light than that lux one. Your bulb there looks like a BA15s to me.

Also its not like this hasn't been done before, see

Hey donR do you have any pics of the replacement?

Inks pics seems to be a replacement light and mount? I'm assuming yours is. Light to go in the original mount.

Can you clarify please, cheers!

The E92 335i LCI doesn't look like anything special. As mentioned if someone wants to come by I can plug in the samples I have to double check.

Otherwise my cousin has an E82 335i which is the same so I can double check on his next week maybe.

Easy thing to do also is just check yourself by taking the reverse light bulb out.

As far as I can see on the osram site for 335i LCI: http://am-application.osram.info/en

This one comes up called a W16W:
310lm, 38mm x 16mm

The LED equivalent is slightly smaller than this one and is called a T15, the one in the photo has a T20 base which is a little wider but can be ordered with the smaller T15 base:
1390lm, 16mm socket base, so it is a little longer but thats all.

E90 and E91 PRELCI 335i come up as this one:

I believe the E92 LCI's reverse bulbs are special and isn't replaceable with traditional wedge type bulbs.

Ok I did a search & you are right for some of the later models there is a third base type so people should check what they have if they can.

I will check if we can order the CREE reverse bulbs with the third base/socket type for E92/93 LCI.

Ink was right the E92, E93 LCI uses this reverse light:

I checked with my supplier and they have a similar model to Lux except it uses 2 x brighter CREE XM-L LEDs which are two larger LEDs and can normally be used as headlights.

They are a bit pricey though at around $53AUS.

So if you're interested in the group buy please check your reverse light to see if it is this type particularly if you are E92, E93 LCI.
Cheers

There are three types.

This group buy is for all three. LCI, PRELCI, E90, E92, E93, E82, etc.

Safest way is to have a quick look at your reverse light to check which type it is. See photos above.

Is that $53 each or for the pair? If for the pair it's much much cheaper than Lux.

And if a warranty is offered, that's icing on the cake!

Yep they said that is for the set so for each side so all good.

Yes and 12 month warranty.

You know there is a big mark up on this stuff but I'm not here to make money out of you guys, just saving everyone some dollars and getting some good lights

Here is a photo of the E92/93 LCI CREE XM-L LED reverse light. Very similar to the Lux design.

With the 12 month warranty, i'd recommend that everyone that's LCI jumps on this!

Ill try and get a photo of what my LCI car has for you Don.

When are you looking to make the purchase?

Also R32GOJIRA and I are both in Wollongong so shipping can go to either of us and we can go pick it up, to save shipping costs.

Sounds good. I think yours will be the W16W T15 type:

but please double check if you can. I will order a few extras anyway in case there are any probs.
