valve cover leak?
Have a 2008 328i and looked at the engine the other day and seems like oil may be leaking through the valve cover gasket. Also, noticed one of the tubes look to be pinched and drenched in oil as well.
Attached a pic here to show, so I just replace the valve cover gasket as well as that tube (not sure what it is called). Thanks! http://postimg.org/image/fchgnuf67/ |

While you are in there, replace the Valvetronic actuator and eccentric shaft sensor seals as well... You'll thank me.

agreed. pay close attention to any cracks on the valve cover. these are prone to crack at higher mileage. I had to do my gasket twice after I saw a crack in the valve cover after I had done the gasket change.

Also change oil filter housing gasket while you're there. Its only $30 and will go bad and its speculated to cause water pump/thermostat issues as small pieces float trough the coolant.
