Ive owned my e90 320d m sport 2008 177bhp for 3 years now and every niw and then when sitting at lights, no handbrake left in drive with foot on the brake ready to pull off it jerks instead of pulling off smoothly.

Id say it does it once a journey but is perfectly smooth all the time apart from this, would have the fluid changed help this?

I wouldn't recommend using Park whilst sat at traffic lights, if you get rear ended the gearbox could be destroyed, leave it in P with brake applied or if you must move out of D go into N.

I have always wondered what everyone else did at lights with an automatic, having only had mine for a short period I have always been sat in drive with the foot on the brake.

However it make sense to sit in park in case anyone did rear end me

If you sat in park you could feed the ducks and no-one would be able to rear end you

Well that depends, some parks get quite dodgy at night time
