N55 E92 335i: Can you add Resonators to Reduce Rasp on N55?

Hi,

I know on the N54 you can remove the cats and add resonators to reduce the rasp when you have downpipes and the performance exhaust installed.

I have an N55 so my 335i Coupe doesn't have any secondary cats, but with my VRSF downpipe the sound is very raspy, would I be able to cut and weld resonators on the straight part of the pipe behind the catback performance exhaust or is that not possible to do on an N55?

I'm looking to add 2 Vibrant 1792 Bottle Style Resonator. (one on each pipe)

So basically can I just cut the pipes where it is straight and add 2 resonators (one on each pipe) then cut and weld the pipe on to the other side of the resonator and put everything back together or is that not possible?

Thanks in advance.

My car is a 2012 N55 E92 335i Coupe M Sport 6SM RWD

I don't see why you couldn't do it.

Just get under the car, it'll be pretty clear where you can put them, side by side. N54 exhaust is almost the same, you can use their pics as reference as well.

Just means you have more room to cut and weld them in

The stock piping is like ~2.3", people have used both the 1790 (2.25) and 1792 (2.5) with success. Personally I would go with the slightly bigger one, I wouldn't wanna make it smaller than what the piping already is.

Yeah, you weld them in the mid pipes right before the X or H pipe. Check out this thread.
I did exactly what you're planning with the 1790 resonators. Gets rid of 95% of the rasp.

Awesome! Thanks, much appreciated.

Does it really lower the tone of the exhaust though?

Like cruising wise passing someone will they be able to hear it?

Yes, especially during spirited driving.

It will work with a Vanguard V2 exhaust as well correct? I might actually go with that one instead of a Performance Exhaust because there isn't as much rasp and they sound great on N55.

You will need to figure out the diameter of the vanguard exhaust and get the appropriate resonators.

So im interested to see how this goes for you.

Yesterday I had the ar design 4" catless downpipe installed.

I already had the BMW performance Exhaust.

Cold starts are crazy loud, I want them to be way quieter, and low rpm, low gear acceleration is super loud as well, like 1st gear taking off slowly or quickly from a stop, even with a warm engine.

I feel like I cant drive quickly around town anymore without the car sounding like its on a track with straight pipes

Does anyone know if adding resonators will quiet it down?

It quieted mine down a little but theres no rasp at all now... After my kittyless downpipe, I couldnt stand it so I ordered a pair of vibrant 1792's. Drone at 2-3k rpm is there still but not as loud and not concerning. Exhaust sounds good now.

I know exactly what you mean bro. I ended up going back to stock DP cause I couldn't stand the low rpm / low throttle noise.

And it really takes the refined feel away from the car.

I didn't both with resonators. Can't say I miss my downpipe at all though. The spool was faster with it, but I'm not really noticing a big difference in top-end power. When you're making 350whp, another +/- 20whp really doesn't make that much of a difference IMO.
