Car Ramps
Hi all,
I've been considering buy car ramps for a while now, they just seem so much more convenient then jacking. I would of course still use axle stands as a safety measure! Anyone have or use ramps similar to the ones below? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4009480485...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT |

Often something like this is needed. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sports-car...bDcLJQ93V5OFKw Potentially these - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Cougar-Low...MAAOSw0vBUcGWC It all depends how high off the ground you want it, but for decent height the ramps can end up quite long. |

As above.
Haven't used mine for years - and even without taking the above into consideration, by the time you've fucked about lining them up and driving up them, it's quicker to just jack the car up and whack an axle stand under it. |

Thanks chaps.
I need to invest in a proper jack really, one that can jack from the central jacking points. I hate jacking one side up then the other, too much movement and noise :/. |

You can also get those metal box ramps and extenders from Machine Mart too. |

Does this reach the center front jacking point on M Sports? I have an E92 M Sport and the front sits quite low! |

Pretty sure it does. It reaches on my mates 135i and that's about the same size as the E9x
I haven't bought it yet as I'm waiting for another VAT free day.

I couldn't get to the center point without getting the car in the air a bit first. Maybe the best thing to consider is some small ramps that lift 4-5-inches so you get the clearance for the jack. Or get some wood from B&Q and build it yourself. That's what I'm going to do next time, just to get that little bit of clearance. Wood is better than bricks btw, as bricks are brittle and can just crumble. So don't rely on bricks. Obviously goes without saying, put the car on stands before going under it at all!! |

I bought a length of 2x8 from the local timber merchants and made two small ramps.
Stacked two pieces high with chamfered edges and a little stop at the end Bottom piece about 2.5ft long, top piece about 1.5ft long. Drive on then jack up :-) |

All sounds great if you have a garage or shed or similar. I've just moved into my own flat so space is a bit of an issue RE: Storage.
I think I will have to invest in a proper jack and use some sort of cheapish method if raising the car ie planks |

Yeah spend the money on the Jack and decent axle stands, use plank ramps and make a small block to fit in the side jacking points.

I've got the £90 Arcan jack from Costco and can recommend it. You would probably have to raise the car a little on ramps before it would reach the centre jacking point.
http://www.costco.co.uk/view/p/arcan...j2000eu-900930 Best thing about this is the amazing warranty...My original jack recently developed a fault and I didn’t know when I originally purchased it as I had lost the receipt but figured it was probably about four or five years ago so started speaking to customer services via email and after a couple of mails the store manager at MK (my local branch) phoned me and told me to just bring it in and he would check my original receipt from their system and then just swap it out. I went in the next day and they checked their systems which revealed that I had purchased the jack back in 2006!! They still swapped it out without question. I love Costco so after 9 years of use I now have a brand new Arcan jack as per the one on the above link very happy. |

Planks are the best way IMO for people who don't have tonnes of space and nice garages. Wood is cheap and easy to store. You can leave it somewhere near the flat and you don't care if it gets nicked either because its 5 quids worth of wood.
