Cheapest Method to Code New Injectors & Battery

Hi All,

Numerous things on my 335 have crapped out during my ownership and I have finally have two projects that are not covered. My battery is dying out with the winter here in NY and my bank 2 injectors were never changed to the upgraded ones. I have both of these parts. Now I just trying to find the best method for coding my installs. I have went through multiple fourms and youtube videos on coding. From using bluetooth INPA K+CAN to phone, wired USB to laptop running the appropriate program and dedicated scan tools. Currently I have a Macbook Pro but might be able to get a hold of a Windows 7 laptop. I do not want to go the phone route. If there is a decently priced scan tool that will do all of this I am open to that. If there is a dedicated fourm for this on e90 post please direct me to this. Any feedback would be helpful. Please no debates on weather or not I need to code.

Thanks,
Ken

Cheapest method for injector coding would be inpa with a k+dcan cable (I believe there's a full 50 min video on YouTube of a guy walking through all the steps on inpa to code new injectors). For battery registration, you can use inpa but the easiest method would be with a free program called bmwlogger. Takes literally 2 min to register a batter with that program and the k+dcan cable.

bmw logger and the k+dcan cable will probably run you $50. I use this setup all the time to read codes and it allows you to register a new battery. You cannot 'code' changes to the ECU with bmw logger, but you can use the k+dcan cable and other software for coding changes.

If you battery is really shot, just get it replaced and don't worry about registration right away. While this may shorten the life of the new battery, it's not worth getting stranded due to the older battery dying in an inconvenient location.

Oh btw just run virtual machine, you can run that on your Mac without needing to get Windows 7 laptop. And I'm not sure what operating system is required to run bmwlogger but I think you may be able to run it with most operating systems

I just coded my injectors and have done a battery before. I'm in CNJ. I'll do it for free if you come to me.

OK so I had the time to order the cable. When trying to load BMW Logger on my MAC it asks for my administrator password. Do I need to purchase or donate to the site to run this program? I am trying to only use it for clearing engine codes and registering this new battery. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Most likely the software is actually asking your admin password on your OS.
Otherwise it would be phrased differently. Very possible that you may need to go to Mac-Settings-Security and allow to run program acquired from 3rd party source.
And it seems that you can run it without license with limited capabilities.

UPD:
Just installed BMW logger. If you have no password on your admin account - the program didn't take just the empty line, i had to create password - enter it, then you can delete again for admin profile on mac.

Great info.

+1 for virtual machine too. However I think you can depend on vmware only - it's already a miracle our usb cables using serial (an unknown concept on mac) is functioning.

What about carsoft v12? More expensive but seems to have a lot more features. New injectors please explain what is there to 'code' - can't you just initialize a ecu to self learn mode? Inpa seems really scary to use.

To me it seems that for those who want less hustle with software - the best option is the new Coding device sold on Ecstunning for 200$, checked out its manual, and it does many simple-average tasks as well as battery, injectors.

I myself just set up Inpa and will be experimenting soon, but if i didn't already had the cable - id probably go with external ready to use with bmw device, since I'm not planning to go to deep into it.

I'm a programmer and I would prefer using my existing obd cables and my notebook. But a "scan tool device" with coding possibilities sounds nice too for only 200$. I found it here . Looks pretty cool. I'm still hesitating though; I'm used to FIAT/Alfa program multiecu scan on my PC and it is really easy to use and provides help on most functions and errors (descriptions, possible causes, procedure steps).

Carsoft seems to include contextual help like this. To compare with this "Scan Tool" I will read the manual (when I have time) available here by the manufacturer . Looks great and convenient so far - thanks for your suggestion!

Someone made a review on our e46 brothers forum. It happened the past few days. I think this tool has good potential if it's backed properly by ecstuning and not abandoned before they fulfill their promise of coding option due in march.

Somerset's not that far from my dealer if you'd be interested. If it's just coding as long as you have all the #s I need I can get you in and out in 5 minutes.
