N55 in M135i same as 335i E90's???

Just wondering if its the same engine as been thinking about one of these.

But wonder is the 335i issues on Injectors/Coils/HPFP and Carbon Build-up will just be the same in time?

Obviously most of these M135i & M235is are still low mileage & under manufacturers warranty so no-one is complaining yet.

Anyone know if its up versioned improving these areas?

'Most' E90/91/92/93 335i's are the N54 engine not the N55 from the M135i/M235i.

I think E90/91/92/93 LCI 335i's changed over to the N55 but I don't know from what date.

I think later N54 engines have a lot less issues than the early ones. Mine is a 2013 and has (so far) been ok. My 2011 one was not and had coil pack issues. The BMW tech at the time said the latest versions (2013 on for my Z4) were not having the 'old' issues. Carbon issues are not something they can stop though due to the design of the engine. How much an issue that is on an engine under maybe 50K is the subject of much forum debate.

The change over varies on model. As stated, the e90 changed end 2009 - early 2010. The e92 changed much earlier.
Anything you buy that's registered since mid 2010 will be the single turbo N55.

March 2010 onwards for E92/E93 LCI all have N55.
Don't know when the E90/E91 changed to N55, I would expect the same time.

Z4 still keeps N54

The M135i/M235i all get rave reviews about the engine and gearbox but surely a e92 335i LCI with N55 and DCT should be just as good and cheaper? ive not driven either but everytime i look at the M135i I then look at e92's with the same engine as i prefer the looks.

So basically an N55 is an N55 and it will have much the same issues as the miles increase.

I have an N54 but would guess the N55 will be an improvement. I haven't heard of any issues really with the N55 whereas the N54 early on had a lot. HPFP, coils, etc.

I would suggest an N55 is a better bet than an N54, even a late one like mine.
