I die a little bit inside every time the news talks about it being "life or death". 30" in 3 days barely even counts as a dusting. Here in sunny CA we manage to survive when it snows 50" overnight. I think last weekend the forecast was for 5-10 feet, but no mention of impending death

The Persian Whisperjet has ordinary tires that are probably a bit over-inflated come to think of it since I have been road tripping lately. It will not be going anywhere this weekend. In any case I have gin and plenty of limes.

Although we haven't had this year, or generally get at all, much snow other than going up to ski, I put Blizzak LM-25 RFT winter tires on the car during the months where it gets under 40 degrees F. They don't handle as well, but are acceptable.
Now am thinking about a little winter road trip in about 10 days. Portland to SLC via I-84. Attending a genealogy conference (RootsTech 2016) at the Salt Palace in SLC. After that head to Sacramento via I-80. Then down I-5 to L.A. to see my brother near LAX. Then back to Portland via I-5 again. Each of those legs has potential for snowy/icy surfaces over the passes, depending on the weather timing. So I'm praying for good timing so I don't have to use my winter driving skills. With the Blizzaks the traction is pretty good. It's just that the car is low enough that I don't want to aid the state with snow plowing services of my own. Occasionally chains are needed, specifically over Donner Pass on I-80 and Siskiyou pass on I-5. I have looked at the Quality Chain Cable-type EZ Fit model and it looks like it might work. But I hate to spend the money ($59) and not need them. More than the money I worry about the tight clearances in the rear wheel well and how much a hassle they will be to put on. Any experience with this, forum members? The last trip to California over the Siskiyou pass and near Mt Shasta city the Forester had the duty, and with the Michelin X-Ice3 winters it was no problem. BTW, those are really great tires IMO.
